The only problem is that traffic can be faked also. They can make fake traffic that click and do stuff running them through VPN's. So then OK just use chrome, but then that too can be faked. Will it ever end

But real traffic does help overall rankings. For instance I had an article go viral and got 5k visits per day from various sites for a week. G liked that a LOT.

What I've found over the years... you can have a kickass domain and site BUT if Google doesn't like it for some reason, then its a hard slog, that can spell disaster. On the other hand, if G does like it, it's smooth sailing. All the work and time invested pays dividends

What G likes and doesn't like, is akin to... how long is a piece of string. However it's sure nice when you hit that sweet spot!

If your ranking for the given keywords/phrases then cleary there's no problem

Hate that shit. Happened to me to. Got strange links from russian mobile sites, strange redirects etc. The only thing you can do is disavow. It will work but you have to wait until next update, at least I had to.

Not really is just people creating backlinks to your site and there is now way to stop it. As others have said Dssavow is the only way to go. You can use SemRush, Majestic or other backlink tools to identify potential harmful links.
Just google bad backlink removal for tutorials. On previous site I've worked on I've seen 100's a week!

I think very soon Google will base quality content and user actions rather than back links, I personally feel that backlinks are no longer the main major ranking factor, Especially with mobile updates coming April, It would make more sense for google to use data from those devices and also their analytics, desktop etc to pass rank as this is a REAL indicator of a good site.. it may already be happening right now but no real research on the subject yet, it is the most logical solution and we also be an answer to all the spam, and cheats looking for quick rankings out there.

Yes the Casino site in my signature, and there was also a statement made about rank brain, of how it evaluates weighting of the scores.. let's face it backlinks are the worst way of signaling the quality of a site hence why all the spammers use them, I actually put together a thread at GPWA showing how this was possible though I have not updated as I am awaiting the proation period to finish which it almost has.. ranking wise most of my pages are where I want them.. just by building content
