Spain could permit certain sports prediction markets under its existing gambling framework, according to legal experts speaking during a Gaming in Spain webinar. Products based on sporting or horse racing outcomes may qualify if they use a peer-to-peer model, with the operator acting only as an intermediary. The debate follows disciplinary action against Polymarket and Kalshi, which were blocked for operating without Spanish licences. Meanwhile, regulators are preparing broader reforms to remote gambling rules and rolling out cross-operator deposit limits. The new caps will initially be tested in September 2026 before taking full effect in March 2027 across the country.

Thanks for sharing this update! The contrast between cracking down on unlicensed prediction markets and trying to carve out a legal P2P framework shows just how fast regulatory definitions are being pushed right now.

Personally, I think opening the door for regulated prediction markets is great for product diversity, but the real challenge for affiliates operating in Spain remains the tightening deposit restrictions. When cross-operator deposit caps go fully live in 2027, high-value player LTVs are bound to drop across the board. Navigating Spanish compliance is going to require even tighter alignment between affiliates and licensed operators moving forward.
