Anyone seeing any shifts in the SERPS or their rankings?
Traffic seems a little up for me across a few sites, but nothing extraordinary and probably just variance.

Don't know how it's possible - higher in rank - less hits

Looks like a lot of single page spammy sites have been all but booted to the curb.

Whoohooo! Those crazy spammers... I bet the last few to try never got their ROI.

Long live us!

It was a long time coming! But yes I agree, for the first time in a while, the SERPS look a little cleaner!

I think this may be not good at all for many of us ?

Again, this is launching as soon as tomorrow and will look specifically spammy queries, such as terms like [payday loans], [casinos], [viagra] and other forms of highly spammy queries.

No idea what they mean with "targeting spammy queries". Does this mean if you search for like "online casino", you get no results anymore?
Anyone knows more about this?

Well google is very busy this year, it would not surprise me, if they come right now also with Penguin update.

I'm not sure what it means, I pretty much tried to avoid using that kw and it is too competitive.

Am just reading at Webmaster World ...

http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4679408-2-30.htm

I think many posters understandably misunderstand the purpose of spam updates! It's not to take down less relevant sites with crap content, it's to take down sites that have 'spammed' google by building false positives to be ranked higher!

Say you have

A) a brand new site with the most useful information, a great user friendly experience but they paid for a link building service!

B) a old site outdated site, bad user experience, no mobile version and poorly written content, but has a natural back link profile!

Site A is the spammy site according to googles mindset! It's not about producing better results, it's about stopping a few webmasters gaming the system at all cost, even if they produce far superior websites and content it's still spam if you push the site up the SERPS unnaturally!

Well, think we need to wait a bit longer and see.
Fingers crossed for each of us

That's what I don't understand... A lot of "SPAM/SEO(Paid links)" comes from active webmasters just wanting better for their site. If a webmaster is willing to put money behind their site (in a few high quality links) its usually because they have something worth promoting.. But I also understand that it has been abused, I guess G has a hard job in trying to find a happy medium.

I still say we go back to 2008 or whatever!

My poker site was hit a while ago, I had bought some gigs on fiver about three years ago and it hurt it. I knew I had to disavow some links but I have also been doing press releases and have gotten relevant links that I was not sure if they were good or bad. I bought a subscription to link detox about two weeks ago, I disovowed the toxic links, and some suspicious links, and my site is showing up for keyphrases again that is it has not for years. Some people are against link detox but it seems to work.

FYI - I did not use link boost I have read good and bad things about it.

The G index is certainly cleaner in my neck of the woods :D
Not that it's really done anything miraculous for me, yet. But with the spammy sites gone, least now, I feel I'm not taking 1 step forward and 3 backwards!
