The proposed changes would give local authorities more control over betting shops and adult gaming centres as part of wider high street regeneration plans. Under the new approach, communities would have a stronger say over which businesses open in their areas.

Personally, I doubt this will significantly curb gambling demand - it will likely just accelerate the transition from physical shops to online platforms. Retail betting has been declining for years, and adding more local administrative hurdles just speeds up that natural industry shift.
