Spain has mandated that online gambling platforms display explicit addiction risk warnings, akin to tobacco packaging labels. Introduced by Minister Pablo Bustinduy at a "Safe Gambling" event, the new policy requires operators to replace vague messages like "play responsibly" with direct statements such as:
  • “Gambling addiction is a risk of gambling.”
  • “The probability of being a losing gambler is 75%.”
  • “Losses for all gamblers are four times greater than their winnings.”
These warnings will appear on websites, mobile apps, and digital ads. The decision stems from a 2024 Ministry of Health report revealing that 82% of addiction-related hospital admissions in 2022 were linked to gambling. While the government emphasizes public health, industry group JDigital criticizes the comparison to tobacco, arguing that Spain's regulated gambling market is already among Europe's most controlled. Further reforms, including bans on celebrity endorsements and welcome bonuses, are under consideration.

The European market is lost forever. Seems that the woke people in charge have taken over. Spoke to some Netherlands people recently in the gambling industry, and all they could talk about was how good regulation was there. Like, make no money, but praise those controlling you! Stockholm syndrome. Many European markets are dead - Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, now Spain and Portugal. Viva the black market and crypto! People might whine about the black market but it's market forces. People will find ways of betting. The same way that the US banned alchohol 1920-1933!, but people will find a way
