Living in Utah as an affiliate

If I where to move and make Utah my primary residence - as an affiliate here, how would that work? As they recently made it illegal to gamble online from the state of Utah, how would that work for tax and other purposes? Would I be able to register my business as an LLC in another state (Arizona) but market from Utah?

If anyone is currently in that situation, or has any input.. Let me know. I will most likely talk to a CPA or other lawyer if I decide to move.. But if anyone lives in Utah (or WA for that matter...) and has any input, let me know.

I don't live in Utah, but you can register your business in another state. Mine is registered in Nevada.

Okay, then do you still have to file state taxes within the state you are in? I know NV has no state income tax... So do you just not have to file state if your business is registered in NV?

Yes, I still file taxes for the state I live in. I have a CPA, but I know she does that :)

Yeah, I'll have to talk to a CPA as well, I have control issues (mostly other peoples fault for screwing things up so often lol).. I like to try to do everything myself... but at some point things become to time consuming.

You should be OK just so long you are doing as said above because the business is operating out of state. Where you live is inconsequential. In fact, to bullet prof it you would only need to drive to AZ and send a check for $1,000 USD to "muffincrumbs" who will then spend it on something pretty.

Of course a great lawyers can prob have their way with you for awhile, but its like that in most professions. I worried about my servers privacy "Who-Is" address leading to Utah and the servers for Hostgator are located there too. Then I stopped worrying about it because I started drinking.

...oh yeah and the disclaimer helps a bit to. I read on a lawyers blog (missing citation) they proved in court awhile ago that webmasters have no control over where their visitors originate geographically. Target UK players with a USA site, that's what I do =P So what if I'm not smart =D

lol I hope your bank really has you under DBA 'muffincrumbs'.

I didn't think of that... Your right, hostgator has a server located in Utah... Hope that does not become a problem later down the line..

How is Utah life treating you old timer?

I bet its getting cold up there already. It will probably snow in New Mexico, yes that's in the USA all you live in  (I learned a word)

Hopefully business will pick up even more now that the weather is turning to the unfavorable side and people will be happy to sit a home and do stuff over the net.

If you are referring to me... I'm still in Phoenix, was just looking at homes (more like neighborhoods) around the Utah state area a few weeks ago.. It was pretty cold.. But also refreshing..

There are two things that I thought about. I am in NY, it is an 6-10 hr drive to canada and the houses are priced well right about buffalo.

If a person started a business in another state for Tax purposes, they would need a mailing address, no?

Another thing is that some of the affiliate programs will only wire transfer to a personal account, not business.
