Lithuania is preparing a major change to its gambling market with plans to introduce mandatory player cards from January 2029. The system would apply to both online gambling platforms and land-based venues, requiring players to use verified cards linked to their identity.
Officials say the move is designed to strengthen player protection, improve monitoring and reduce gambling harm. The reforms would also gradually phase out cash payments at gambling venues, replacing them with traceable digital transactions.
Operators are expected to receive a transition period to upgrade systems before the full rollout begins.
