Well, people think that this is the GamesandCasino page at twitter. So they will sign up to follow it, and that means that the person sqatting my domain will be able to send them messages in my name, or post public items in my name. They could promote anything and people would think I endorsed it.

Dominique is absolutely correct... The squatters (love that term from history) are there to steal your 'good name' and use it to gain players. I don't know how the affiliate programs will react to this one because it is NOT theft of content in most cases. It is unethical marketing, IMO, but in most cases (probably alll cases) the T&Cs don't clearly outline ethics :(

So - what to do about it?

Maybe contact Twitter? I do not know if their T&C's will allow any sort of grievance filing in the case where folks have somewhat stolen your identity. Probably not, but it may be worth a try.

The other possibility is to talk to the affiliate managers. It is quite possible that some may help you out and talk to the affiliate in question.

Twitter takes complaints about such things, and I filed one - we'll see.

This is some of the worst kind of BS we've encountered. Much worse than content theft because they can damage your good name.

I will never understand these losers. If they put half of the effort into building an honest business online rather than using theft for a quick score, then good things would probably happen.

Sorry to hear that Dom. Not taking into account the low life squatters, how is your twitter campaign working out for you? Have you found it a valuable resource? Would you recommend integrating twitter into the normal work routine?

Thanks, and please keep us updated on the situation.

Well, it happened to casinomeister and spearmaster, and now to me.

This is NOT my page:

GamesandCasino (GamesandCasino) on Twitter

This is my page:

Games and Casino (DominiqueGG) on Twitter
<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I did not see where that name has a link to any site. Twitter is a free-for-all just like the rush on domain names... grab your name before it's gone is the rule of the day as popular names are being sold... but there is a limitation on the length of the name so pretty soon, xyspwxz will be all that is left.

Its a couple of generic words, hardly a widely known brand in the grand scheme of things. Could be just a coincidence (unfortunate from your point of view).

Take a look at twitter.com/apple and tell me if you reckon its apple computer. I don't like your chances of getting it handed to you.

Games and casino are just words. GamesandCasino is copyrighted and it is one of the best known online gambling resources with 8000 pages and 8 years of business.

It's definitely no coincidence, and it is happening at an increasing rate to larger sites of all descriptions. Apparently these names are being held ransom for money in some cases, and Twitter says they are pursuing this vigorously (whatever that means).

Twitter has rules against name squatting as well as impersonation etc. A whole list of ways that business names are being taken advantage of.

I hope everyone opens a twitter account under their business name to prevent theft of this type.

You can have it if you want it. Just send me a DM with a password
