Hi,

I am setting up cloaked links to the casinos I promote so I can manage aff links changes easily and to prevent my clicks from being stolen.

However, when I make the link cloaked I get a HTTP 404 error when browsing with firefox - but not with google chrome.

Could you please:
- Tell me whether you have this too? E.g. http://www.playersbay.com/agd goes to Affiliate Guard Dog website, do you get there in Firefox or not?
- Give me tips on how to set up cloaked links so that all/99%+ of users get to their destination?

Thanks!

Peter Jan i tried your link, yes it does not work in FF
it does in IE, you make your links via htaccess?
I have made some via htaccess on one of my other sites and the link works in IE and FF

i.e. my htaccess redirect looks , there is a slash before redflush

Redirect 301 /redflush XXXXhttp://XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Or you can do it in php like this:

php code of casinoname.php (it wont allow me to have the start and close php tags in the code...)
Code:
header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );
header( "Status: 301 Moved Permanently" );
header( "Location: hxxp:/casinoname.com/get/a/affcode-bla-bla-bla" );
exit(0);

Then just drop the file in a folder like /goto/ or something and set up all links to point at yourdomain.com/goto/casinoname.php

A bit messy to set up but I like this method because it makes it easy to change the links and easy to find it if you got lots of em :)

Thanks to both of you!

I use software for cloaking the links - I will ask the makers to look into the issue and if that does not help I will stop claoking them - the links work in firefox if I set it like that and my primary concern is easy link management anyway:)

I am doing this the same way as mrHunter. In this case though make sure that you set up a disallow in the robots.txt file for that folder (here for the "goto" folder) so you can avoid extensive redirect penalty. :)

I stared to use the php method like mrHunter posted
but I do not have the
header( "Status: 301 Moved Permanently" );
Is that necessary?

I love the php method, it is the most easy way for me, and all is nice organized.

The "cloaked" links, as are described in this thread, will not work in IE8 64bit, even in ie8's new compatibility mode.

Nope. Just got a 64 bit system and noticed the links did not work and thought it worth a comment.

I am noticing a lot of things don't work the same in ie8 64bit, but it just may be my settings.

oh man, can anyone find out more about this?
I tried them in IE8 and FF, they do work for me, but I do not have the vista 64bit. Would be sure bad if the links all dont work in 64 bit.
I see lot of work coming up once again. :(

on my homepage Gambling Bonus Paradise
all the casino links you see there are php header redirects how described in this thread

Please let me know if they work for you
Many thanks

they worked just fine for me in IE8 - 64 bit. I did not check cookies, so can I assume that cookies do work? I can test it out with a deposit somewhere if you want.

Just how to get you the money?

No need to get me the money. Just check Alladin's Gold for a $155 deposit.
