One of the weirdest things about the ever growing UK obsession with all things USA is that TV presenters over here keep mentioning 'American Independence Day' as something to be celebrated. It is very, very strange.

Not sure about their understanding of history but England getting their arses kicked by the nascent USA is really not something that should be celebrated over here.

My point is this, I guess: happy independence day to all you Americans!

It's traditionally a day to have a picnic and set off some fireworks.

I'm not American either, but any reason is good for a picnic and fireworks.
