Totally agree @Alkis, you are spot on, this is worth reading. The AI‑driven changes are already rolling out, so it’s no surprise search won’t be the same anymore.

I suppose that was always the end goal. Use everyone's content, call it 'transformative', and only link to the original sources at the bottom of the page. CTR may be fine for now, but watch it plummet once heavy monetisation starts.

I think people will just use other search engines. Plenty of options out there as alternatives, they will just have to focus more on their results. This is where Google beats them (recently googles results are bad tho)

Hey Alkis, I've certainly changed. And I remember the moon landing.

I find the AI summary in a paragraph format better than a listing of sites that may or may not have the information that I want.
Of course if the summary proves to be rubbish then of course no-one will use that.

I think this will have a big impact on visits on the websites, as I also check only the AI summary, unless I wanna do a deep research, but even then.. people are lazy nowadays and they want quick and easy answers.

This is very interesting.. i rarely check the summary, i just skip it..

If Google removes the option to skip, then i have no option i guess..

Will use Google for AI summary and some other engine for classic search..

If Google continues to force this AI on us everywhere they can, they'll soon be dead… with competitors like DuckDuckGo gaining ground. I'm rooting for them!

I've read that they tripled their traffic since the AI announcement. Since their market share is still under 1% ( not sure if still accurate), I doubt Google is concerned.

Given how heavily Microsoft is investing in AI, I'm sure they'll follow suit. There's too much money on the table, and providing relevant search results — i.e. minimizing the time users spend on the search page— is counterproductive from an advertising point of view.

a few words about Google: pride goes before a fall
