I came across a website for a land based casino that has a woman appear on the homepage (flash player) and give a verbal introduction to the casino.

I like this and am starting to think it may be something to add to my website. I am not very technically gifted and am not sure about the logistics of implementing this on my website.

Have a look and if you can give me any pros or cons to having something similar on my website I would appreciate it.

mikebuchanan12,
Buddy I am not posting a link to a casino in Dublin, Ireland on a forum which may have about 10 or less people from that city, of which 2 may see this thread with about a 2% chance that one of those 2 people play poker in order to drum up business:)

"anyway anything that heavy wont be good for your rankings as affiliate" - I'm not sure what this means? in search engine results? Most of my business is word of mouth and some is paid for advertising with a good chunk being retweets/likes.

hugh.r.walker75,
I am not technically gifted but thanks for the advice, I will look into it to see the difference. Any of the work involved will be done by a freelancer.

I have been advised that auto play flash video with audio on the homepage is almost always a bad idea. Would you agree?

His website in his signature, so your comment is uncalled for. you need to "think" before you post.

I could have something like a small youtube video box on the homepage where people can play it if they like but the big reason I am being advised against something like the casino website is the autoplay function.

I don't like the example posted, especially with her legs cut off, it look cheap and nasty. But I've seen others, where the presenter scrolls (stick to the bottom of the page). If it's done tastefully and presented well, in keeping with a site, I would think anything is worth a go. To maximize benefit you'd need to have a good handle on the type of people your site attracts.

I really like this concept at some stage once I have made a bigger name for my website I might look into doing something like this. I think this can give your website a more polished look. But you have to be careful as it could come across as a bit tacky.

I hate all that kind of stuff.

Makes the site slow and honestly, is super irritating. Having a website talk to you is only marginally better than one that plays music in the background...

(I'm referring to stuff like this on a home page here btw - if you want to put it on an instructional page where the user has asked for it, then that's another matter).

I think you should stay away from flash altogether because on mobile devices i.e apple iphones & ipads, flash wont load and where the flash player is supposed to be you'll get an error looking message informing the visitor that they need to download flash. it'll look hideous and not worth it.
Like Oracle said above, rather go with a youtube video which is lighter and will load on all devices and if you really want to, you can set it to auto load when the site loads.
Mobile traffic is becoming more and more valued so you want your site to look good and load without any errors
