On another note, the Facebook people who contacted me tried to justify their actions by sending me a long list of other gambling affiliates they were shutting down. Some big ones on there. I suggested they shut down the GPWA and if these people are not directly involved in gambling promotion, who isn't?!

Perhaps they pay the ransom money each month. Afterall, they are probably making a lot of money from allowing corrupt sponsors to headline on their site!

Here's the list of pages Facebook told me are being shut down in order to justify why I was being shut down. I would suggest if you're on the list that you probably waste no more time on Facebook! Either that or work out whether it's worth paying $10000 per month in ad spend:

some of these page aren't shut down yet as I can still view them. Plus they don't have an age restriction set otherwise I'd have to log in to see them.

I'm just saying this was a list I was sent that they were going to look at. Many are still available, but perhaps not for long.

I thought that is what you meant but why would FB send you a list? how did you get that info out of them?

I complained when my page was shut down telling them that thousands of people were doing the same - it's the gambling affiliate industry! They replied with some example pages they were looking at. From what I can see, this is a bunch of amateur marketing people based in Eastern Europe who are simply chancing their arm on making some money out of the more "popular" affiliate brands out there. It seems that probably every 1 in 20 people they ask probably pays up the ransom money.

Try reporting any page on Facebook and you'll see there is no option for "this page is involved in promoting gambling". But as gambling affiliate we all are. Even if you don't promote gambling directly, if you link to your web site then you will be caught out by them. They have no care for how little money you're making, because I was making zero from my Facebook page, bit if they think you have enough followers that you might be making money then they'll try extort you.

The moral of the story is - beware if you're ever going to build a lot of followers on Facebook, because whaterver industry you're in you'll have the Facebook mafia onto you asking for ransom money or they'll send you a finger in the post.

Well - I'll be very surprised if they can find ANYTHING wrong with our facebook page.
It's a very low sales to news ratio - which is apparently what they want.

It will be interesting to see how FB handle this situation.

The fact that you have "gambling" in your page name might alert them, but you might be under the radar right now with so few followers.

It seems the big pages are paying the ransom money. I spoke to someone the other day who runs a BIG site - 7 figures per year, and they pay up Facebook $40,000 per month to keep their page going.

Similarly, those affiliates who just operate twitter and facebook pages, without a website, are now being held to ransom and pay up the money.

Wouldn't be surprised if Twitter did the same thing soon too.

little by little free is going, that's just how it is now.

Gooner is this the age restriction message or are you blocking US? (using the link posted above)

When I set the age restriction and try and access my page without being logged-in I receive a totally different message.

Sorry, this content isn't available right now
The link you followed may have expired, or the page may only be visible to an audience you're not in.

Mine was unpublished a while ago, perhaps a month and a half. It was around for a few years, it always "broke" their T&Cs. When I asked them:

"But this page has been online for so many years and that wasn't ever a problem." they replied with "Thanks for your email. We are enforcing our policies globally. And soon all the pages in violation of our policies will be pulled down."

Sounds like a Terminator movie quote :D Judgement day, the day all gambling fb pages went down. Btw this kinda annoyed me and I deleted my personal FB for that reason.

The page is restricted to 17+ on the settings (even though it mainly just covers sporting results) ... so I would think that facebook would restrict access to the page UNLESS they could verify the user is of age.

That procedure would match the results that Bet4You is seeing.
(only logged in 17+ years old people can see it).

Whatever the debate though, the fact is Facebook has been shutting down pages for years now, and seems to be having a shut down spree now again. They introduced their non-gamling term about a year ago and now seem intent on shutting down those they think they can demand ransoms from. Ultimately, building any sort of significant audience and making any money from them on Facebook is completely unsustainable, as is any third party website. If you do do it then make sure you bag a load of cash quickly from your users, otherwise it's wasted effort as you could be shut down any day.

Same thing here. FB page shut-down for the same reason.
I will stop wasting my time and money for this useless social media.

A lot of things annoy me with FB, specifically their ever changing tweaks to user accounts, which seem to always involved privacy issues.

This of course starts me thinking what sort of information is given to 3'rd parties for marketing purposes? More to the point, FB has an office in Ireland and that office deals exclusively with their "Gambling" arm. That is advertising accounts owned by the BIG casinos et al.

Who knows what information is being collected and transfered.

I don't really use FB that much, so I might be following suit ;)

I haven't noticed anything unusual with Facebook. It actually seems like there are more and more online gambling news, review and bonus pages that are listed as paid advertisements. It may depend on what state you are in, not 100% sure.

Logged in yesterday and found that one of our sites had the page unpublished and I don't think it had any followers. It does have "onlinegambling" in the name though, so they could be targeting the low hanging fruit.

It seems the big pages are paying the ransom money. I spoke to someone the other day who runs a BIG site - 7 figures per year, and they pay up Facebook $40,000 per month to keep their page going.

Tell me they're earning the 7 figures from FB traffic?! Otherwise that's just crazy.
