I just read an article from the SEROUNDTABLE.com here, it seems that google released a new algo last week called the DMCA Piracy Algorithm. It doesnt look like all of last weeks ups and downs were due to penguin, which tells me we have a lot of refreshes rolling out. What do you guys and gals think?

Albeit SEO round table and alike have their good points. Though, they deal with mainstream sites. While certain aspects of seo, social media foot-prints and alike maybe common across all niches, our industry is unique and can't be compared to mainstream. EG - I have a couple of mainstream sites which rank in the top 3 spots and have maintained their rankings for years. They have a few (30 or so) decent, long standing links point back to them but that's it.

I then compare and track their progress against my casino portals. The later is a roller coaster ride. Using the same principles on my mainstream sites, doesn't work for my gaming portals. It's been clear to me (for many years), Google is using a tweaked alog within the gaming niches. So apart from getting Panda/Penguin updates, I don't take much notice of these mainstream seo portals.

That is a good point, however it is not easy to find good SEO sources, and gaming is currently dominated by blackhat and greyhat seo. Google will eventually catch up IMO, I think in the U.S. it is a state by state issue, the NJ SERPS and NV SERPS and very different from CT and other states.

Geo targeting is in effects in those serps, giving local a boost. This hacking/scraping of the pharma hack has been going on for over 8 years. It just seems likely it has been way more aggressive.

As for google eventually catch up.. I am sure they have been aware of it for long time but ignoring the issue right now.
You make enough noise, you get things done. If you have 50 + people daily reporting bad sites daily they will get tired of getting same type of complaints and do something about it.
I would not just complain in the google spam tool but also in serp feedbacks, webmaster tools, google products forums and stopbadware.org.

Bet is correct, Google does police niches differently, don't think that gaming is much of a priority for them. They most likely hold it in the same regard as porn, pharma and any other vice related niche that has been spammed to death. Alot of the shady tactics you see ranking sites in gaming would not fly with more above board niches. Sad but true. Sure G will catch up eventually, but I'm pretty sure its a much lower priority for them
