Several thousands of online casinos and betting sites currently operate with licenses issued in Curaçao. However, these are often targeting customers from territories that they are not authorized to operate in. This is set to change under the reforms included in the recent Country Package.

Curaçao will have to form a new independent regulator that will be tasked with overseeing the nation’s gambling industry and issuing licenses to interested iGaming operators. The regulatory body must be set up and ready by March 1, 2021.

According to the provisions of the Country Package, Curaçao and its future regulator must come up with a plan by September 1, 2021 to prevent license holders from targeting customers from prohibited territories and to ensure that their operations are compliant with rules.

Would these changes affect the (already banned) AU market... Looks like it. If those casinos pull out of the Australian market, my gambling will come to an abrupt, albeit unwelcome, end.

I don't know about that. Most Curacao licensed casinos choose there specifically because it is cheap and they are unregulated and can do whatever they like. The faux licenses are just a fantasy used to establish a thin veneer of respectability and to fool naive players into thinking they are regulated.

If Curacao actually starts enforcing some regulation, the casinos will just move on to some other tinpot jurisdiction that will do nothing other than take their money and let them slap a seal on their site. So let's see how much more Curacao values consumer welfare over brining in the cash, because if they do this it will kill the industry there.

They would most likely move to US brands, When khanawake pulled the US licenses the same brands carried on just without a license, Unless they change the Culture itself they wont stop people gambling.

Yes and no.

Yes, because the rule will be that casinos operating from Curacao have to respect the Australian law, which means they cannot take bets from Australia anymore.

No, because casinos can also choose to not take a Curacao license. In that case, question is if Curacao will enforce against casinos operating from Curacao (or better said: a Curacao postbox company), but not having a Curacao license. Big chance they won't.

And if they will, those brands will move their postbox to some other dodgy place where they are not bothered.

For them it makes no difference if they have a Curacao seal, a Comores seal, a Belize seal, some fake seal or no seal at all. And it doesn't either for players, because at the moment a Curacao license is quite the same as no license.

I don't think that it is going to change much. They know that they are the go-to jurisdiction for online casinos that want to
accept players from certain countries. If they start restricting countries, then the online casinos will move somewhere else.
