How has this pandemic treated you and yours? Thought I would do a thread to talk about everyone's experiences through all this after the UK, well England, has tightened rules again today. Although I'm in Leicester I'm right out in the countryside so the local lockdown didn't effect me and I was pretty much getting back to normal.
Has anyone had it? Confirmed or suspected? In my local pub we usually drink with 4 couples, and once the lockdown started at least 1 in each household had classic symptoms. My wife lost her sense of taste and smell and isn't normal still now. One of our friends had no symptoms at all but recently tested positive to the antibody test so she had it but had no idea. As it spreads so easy I am assuming I have had it as well due to a little know symptom, which I've only just found out, a metallic taste in the mouth. Another of my friends had the weird rash on his feet as well, as well as losing smell and taste.
So tell us about your experiences. I do apologise in advance if anyone has lost anyone etc and in no way do I wish to upset anyone talking about it

Not really had too much contact with it really. Guy who works for us was off sick for a few days and he thinks he had a mild case of it based on the symptoms but never got tested so don't know for sure.

We're in K&C though which has apparently been identified as "the borough most at risk of becoming a coronavirus hotspot" so maybe that will change!

You know of the Leicester bloke who has a load of pubs round London, Star of Kings @KX, Star of Bethnal Green etc. A big load our our football lot all came down beginning of August to have a good drink and support his pub. Had a good chat with him and he was really confident that London already had herd immunity, he'd not really heard of anyone getting it for a while, Kings Cross was totally dead though

I live in South Australia, where, we'd always cop a ribbing (EG - your from SA, do you have 2 heads) cause it's kinda small compared to other AU states. However, now with covid-19, we're one of the safest places to resides in AU. Adelaide is kinda like a bubble. We've had no new cases for weeks. Here's the stats for today:

New cases today: 0
Active cases: 0
Total cases: 465
Patients in hospital: 0
Patients in ICU: 0
Recovered: 461
Deaths: 4
Tests yesterday: 3,926
Total tests: 413,372

---------

Victoria (Melbourne) our closest major city, is currently in Stage 4 lock-down, and has a 8pm to 6am curfew. They were recording triple figures when Melb got locked down. Now it's back to double digits. However, the lock-down is expected to continue till at least Nov 2020. Though, some reports are saying even that's wishful thinking. All non essentials are closed, and people are at home. Think it's heading into 4 months now.

FYI... The Melb (Vic) stage4 lock-down got this bad, because a private security company, who was supposed to be guarding people in forced Hotel isolation, were escorting said detainees to supermarkets, and worse, some where reported to have been having sex with some of the detainees.

Of course the company responsible has been sacked.

But not before a % of their employees help spread the virus around Melbourne.

They're pretty decent guards. The supermarket we shop at, has installed perspex shields around cash registers etc. These seems fairly decent. Though, was at the Dr's the other day (the 1 place you'd think would have robust protection) and they're only using non-fixed plastic shields. I nearly toppled one on to the receptionist.

Though, they do have hand sanitiser everywhere ;)

I was in a call tonight with a good friend of mine from Australia and said how well the country handle Covid at the start so now you guys aren’t that affected because of the aggressive approach your government took. I’m happy for the aussies.

I only know of one personal mate who possibly had it right at the start of it. Just as we were going into lockdown (London) he was coming out of it.

But there was a guy at the golf club who over the space of a few weeks early on too who lost 7 members of his family. But they were all fairly elderly and of Indian descent.

Cases are rising everywhere again and that was always going to happen. Thankfully the death toll has not matched the rise in infections (so far) but with the winter months now coming up I fear that will not be the case.

London (especially central) turned into a bit of a ghost town and everyone was being pretty paranoid so that probably had a lot to do with it. Seems to be following the same pattern as the rest of the UK though now as things open up again.

Our local is back to being heaving most nights!

Although I never confirmed it by getting tested, in the beginning of January I had a very severe "flu" with chest pains, strong cough that kept me up for 72hrs and yet when they looked at my lungs they were clean.

I can only speculate it was corona, as in 36 years I've never been sick for more than a week, and this held me for almost a month, before I felt completely healthy again.

With that being said, I do not know anyone who has been sick, or know anyone who knows anyone who's been sick. And it's been like that for 6 months.

For a highly contagious virus (or at least they wanna convince us that it is) I find it strange that knowing so many people around the world, so far I haven't heard from anyone who has had direct exposure or knows someone who has had it.

Other than that, if you are not watching the news and reading stuff, around here, you won't even know about it, as everything is open, and nobody even talks about it anymore.

1 of the blokes in our group has now also tested positive to the antibody test so another in our group confirmed, although he did have some of the symptoms

I'm also right out in the countryside in south Norfolk, so felt a little/less effect of the lockdown as normally work from home anyway.. suppose I may have had less worry compared to some ppl live in busier areas. I don't think I know anyone who's had it, but going on what you said perhaps some people I know including myself, have had it and not even realised.

Now they're curfewing the pubs at 10pm here from Thursday. Not sure how that will help much? But i'm all for avoiding a lock down any which way.

RE the pub closing, think it's to try and stop the young ones (17-25) going out together, getting pissed and all jumping around together at 2am, then taking the virus back home to their parents. I have a Monday club most Mondays and we usually go Lutterworth for a drink. Was talking to one staff member and a few weeks back a small night bar/pub was shutdown by the police there (one of them bars that only bothers opening weekend evenings) for being packed. They were allowed about 40 people in due to social distancing but had over 200, mainly under 21's in there, and some were coming from miles away as well which makes it even worse

Yeah, it makes sense when you put it like that. That's totally irresponsible and highlights the issue that many people do not realise the dangers and how it spreads so easily.
