Brazil has become the first Latin American country to sign the Council of Europe’s Macolin Convention, strengthening its efforts against match-fixing and sports competition manipulation. The agreement was signed in Strasbourg by Brazil’s ambassador to France and Monaco, Ricardo Neiva Tavares. The Convention promotes cooperation between governments, regulators, sports organizations, law enforcement and betting operators, with a focus on detecting suspicious betting activity and sharing information. Brazil became the 44th country to sign the treaty. However, the process is not complete yet, as the Convention must still go through Brazil’s domestic approval and ratification procedures before taking full effect.
