Alberta's legislature has passed Bill 48, the iGaming Alberta Act, paving the way for a regulated online gambling market. The act establishes the Alberta iGaming Corporation to oversee private operators under the supervision of Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC). Once it receives Royal Assent, the market is expected to launch in early 2026. The legislation aims to enhance consumer protection, generate tax revenue, and reduce reliance on unregulated platforms. A centralized self-exclusion system will be implemented to promote responsible gambling. This move positions Alberta as Canada's second province, after Ontario, to offer a competitive iGaming environment.

Great news for affiliates and operators keeping an eye on the Great White North!

Alberta stepping into the regulated iGaming ring feels like Canada just went from "hold my maple syrup" to "let's talk tax brackets and compliance clauses."

From an affiliate’s perspective, this opens up a whole new market — one where we might finally stop playing whack-a-mole with geo-restricted links and grey-area platforms. If the model mirrors Ontario’s in terms of licensing transparency and marketing guidelines, it could be a goldmine without the usual legal minefield.

That said, early 2026 isn’t far off. For anyone planning to jump in:

  • Time to start brushing up on AGLC guidelines.
  • Consider building content pipelines now — especially if you're targeting responsible gambling or local SEO in Alberta.
  • And yes, self-exclusion tools mean we should start thinking smarter about user protection flows in our funnels.

Excited to see how this shakes up the Canadian traffic landscape. Alberta might be cold, but its iGaming prospects are heating up fast.
