What software will the new forum use?

xenForo is the platform. These are some of the guys who developed vBulletin before it was purchased many years ago.

You'll love XenForo. I switched my BlackjackTournaments.com site over a few months back. XF is a joy to use, as an admin and a user.

Thanks! Yes, I have been playing around with it for about 6 months. It is very nice. Slightly different than vBulletin. most of the vB developers have already migrated over to xF because it's framework is highly superior. I'm pretty excited to move. It will be nice to be able to load the latest php without having to mod the whole forum structure (like we had to do for vB).

Yes, I did a fair amount of development to integrate an event calendar and casino list into the forum software. There's a learning curve of course (isn't there always!), but once you get the hang of it, the structure is really quite impressive.

I am looking at different forum software with an idea I have to implement it into my site for a specific task in about 6 months and with a quick look at xenForo I don't like that you have to pay an extra $50 for the 'enhanced search'. Something like that should be included in the purchase price in my opinion.

With IP Board I really dislike having to pay an annual renewal fee.

Which leaves vBulletin and all I hear about the new version is complaints.

I have never seen the behind the scenes working of a forum software before and I want to have a few features available that are not there for the free software so its.... difficult.

Looking forward to seeing how xenForo works on this forum.

I agree, but I am not purchasing enhanced search. I don't see the need for it.

I will never use vB again. And the new version is horrible, IMO.

Looking forward to seeing how xenForo works on this forum.

Let's hope... well :)

OK - tomorrow is likely the day that the forum will change.

this means that the forums will be read-only at some point tomorrow while the beta version is tested by me. That way no posts go through that get lost. Once it is ready it will go live.

Whether IP Board, XenForo, or vBulletin, you should plan on paying for ongoing updates and patches. It may not be the same as IPB's annual renewal, but you will likely have an annual cost of some sort.

Most software will have bug fixes issued from time to time, and the Internet has become a dangerous place to run any software that is not kept up to date for any security issues that are discovered.

Good luck with launch. It looks great and I hope all goes well with no 'oops-i've-just-lost-all-the-data...and-the-members-database' type moments.

ha! NO - we have done some testing already. All the members stuff is there inluding the AGD Member Websites, AGD Payments, Users (+Logins), all of that :) It will be the lower-level stuff that we miss that will plague us :) well, I hope not... these guys (developers) are great. They have thought of everything, IMO.

Looks miles better from the screenshots and hopefully a font that I can read properly. The current font (for me) is nasty.

I've only really been a lurker but what I see looks good. The [ table ] tags don't seem to be working in your initial post for the sponsors, but I like the "Thanks" and "Dislike" buttons. After using Facebook I often go to "like" someone's forum post, now on this forum I can!
