After spending years working with various poker/casino/sports betting affiliate networks, I decided to make a list of all major pros and cons.
What is an affiliate network? It is a super affiliate that has a great relationship with brands and can offer the same or even better deals that you would get on your own. You also receive additional benefits on top of that, so for some affiliates it can be a very good option to consider.
What are the pros?
• Most of the time, you will get a better deal either straight away and once you prove yourself, they will be happy to increase it even more. I noticed that very often it is way easier to prove yourself to the network than to the brand directly.
• Affiliate managers won't be able to do shady things like decrease your commission to a minimum, mess with your stats or close your account, since you are a part of the network now and they can't risk to mess with them.
• You can ask network's support to help you in various ways (ask for banners, help with retags, ask for information and so on). This is extremely useful since otherwise you would have to do this all by yourself and it is very annoying if you don't have a direct contact with the brand.
• Retags normally don't happen if you don't work with a network (unless it is a tracker issue and the player just signed up, but even then it is not guaranteed). While with networks it is a different thing, a player wants to be tagged to you? Through networks it is possible to request a retag and with quite a few brands it is way more likely to happen. There can be many instances where brands will say no to you, but will approve the retag through the network.
• All stats, deals and links in one place. No need to log on to 20-50 different accounts, sync data somewhere etc. If something happens (like a link update), it is way easier to be notice it and be aware of it.
• Some networks can help you out with advice, check your sources, give you tips etc.
• Most networks have a sub-affiliate program. So if a specific program doesn't have one or if you want to recommend some brand to another affiliate, it is a good alternative. You earn way more since it is many brands and multiple verticals in one place.
• Additional leaderboards, freerolls, giveaways. Throught networks I was able to get access to massive private leaderboards, they can help to set up private freerolls (for free or split the cost with you), ask brands for special promotions etc. Networks can provide you feeds for the leaderboards so you can easily display them on your site.
Cons
• You should only work with big and known networks for safety reasons. If you decide to work with some random one that has no credibility and many years of experience, then you may run into some issues in the long run.
• Some networks might not provide very detailed stats in their backend and you will have to request them (not a big deal since it is information like a referral source or detailed player activity, not revenue numbers).
