Above Fold Marketing?

A while back (years) Google's approach to above-fold-marketing, wasn't great.

With mobile being so popular these days, I'm looking at re-aranging my home page ads, and bringing them to the top of the page, directly under the main menu.

Would this have a negative impact regarding Google and above-fold-ads?

A really hard question to answer - as the SERPS are changing so frequently due to a myriad of events that it's difficult to match cause to effect.
I've use sidebar adverts from day one - and many of those appear "above the fold". I still got good rankings.
... although whether I would have done better without them is another question - and I cannot definitively answer it.

If you go ahead and do as you plan (and only that change) then you'll be able to tell use whether it did - and be ahead in the Google knowledge game for a while.

I use a header above the fold, not had any problems, as long as content can still be seen from a mobi device it should be ok

That's the only change, I'll be making. The motivation comes from an increase in mobile traffic. As it stands now, I have 1 paragraph of text (say 50% of page width), under this, 4 blocks of text (each using 1 sentence each). Each sentence block has a H3 title. To the side of the paragraph and text blocks, is a image.

Directly under that section are the featured casinos blocks x4. Each with H3 titles. Though the actual heading title of the promo block is H2, with H4 as the catch phrase.

Followed by more content etc., etc.

Fine when it's a PC, but mobile traffic, is having to scroll through the top text blocks, before hitting casino offers. Studying the presentablity on a mobile, even though it's not a heap of text, it still requires the visitor to scroll to the casino offers. Which, I'm of the opinion if these were presented first, then I'd be gaining more interest/signups...

Less work by the visitor to get to the juice, should mean more chance of sigups...

Guess I could be a tricky smarty pants, and display the casino offers first if it's on a mobile. But that kinda complicates things.

I suppose it's take a leap of faith, give it go for a month or two and gauge what happens...huh!

I do some above fold with no issues it is just another one of those G secrets. It's as if if some sites get a free pass to do it & some don't.

We use above the fold ads, however they are generally not banner ads, they are coded so they appear as a text ad. So you get the best of both worlds.

I think it usually depends on how your site or page performs for the visitor, if they get / see what they're looking for, then all good, if not then you might need to re-structure the page, move things around. Do some split testing and check what the conversion rates are before and after.

I do not recommend this approach as I have tested it many times. It is better to place them in the middle of the site (vertically)
