Currently, I am owed approximately $1,500 by BetCRIS but cannot be paid due to the 10 player rule in one week (also applies to Bookmaker).

I recently emailed BetCRIS and revisited the question about the rule. This is Scott Martin's response:

Hi Jim,

In reality it is not impossible for an affiliate of any size to reach a minimum of 10 active players during one week. This is especially true during peak times of the year. That was the point of the rule when it was created by the owner of our company. I have affiliates with 150 active players every week of the year that do not have a website. They work potential lists of clients one by one over the phone. I understand that is not the best way for every one but it is an example. Some affiliates go to bingo night at their church and bring in 10 new players every week by pushing our bingo product. There are a million ways to skin a cat.

Best regards,

Scott

I really don't know how to react to this email.

In a sense, I feel like I have been taken to the woodshed. I never planned on being a "phone bookie" nor do I attend weekly bingo at the church hall and certainly could not bring myself to asking the kindly old ladies at the church hall to wing-it at BetCRIS.

I feel the urge to tell them to keep the money and just remove them from my site entirely. I have a total of 39 players at Betcris, but they never play at the same time.

I am at a loss for words.

We have not evaluated their terms, but any place with a quota is predatory in our books.

10 players per month, though, isn't just predatory... it's ludicrous. The ONLY reason they put this type of term in place is to screw their partners. It is very difficult to maintain that level of activity for most affiliates and only 1 group benefits (well, maybe 2): the Casino and the Affiliate Management Group.

Soliciting sports betting customers over the phone is illegal in the US. They should not even accept US affiliates if they expect this.

I remember a while back an aff needed help running down an account that had been hacked and BCris was unwilling to help though they were in the best position to do so.

Here's my experience with them.

I set up a test site for BetCris about 2 years ago.. maybe a little more. I hardly ever checked the stats. On impulse I checked the stats two weeks ago. I found that during this time I earned $600 in revenue. Great surprise, so I looked for a contact page to tell the AM, so I could cash out. I don't know how, but I landed on a Bookmaker.com . I learned that Bookmaker took over the program for betCris. I emailed them giving my account details, and asking them to transfer my account to their platform and please send the pending funds to my Neteller account.

They were responsive and polite. They set up my old username and password on their system and sent me the Neteller transfer a week later. There was no mention of minimum players or other "extortion" methods.

In my book that's exactly what they should have done.

So, you may want to contact Bookmaker?

WagerX:

It also applies to Bookmaker as well. (They are owned by BetCRIS but except U.S. Players).

You need to read over their T & C's

Good luck,

P.S. - You may have earned the $600 before the rule change which happened fairly recently.

Ziggy,
I appreciate letting me know that. I was seriously considering spending time developing more content for them. I will go over the TOS again, and if I find the 10 player min rule I will not promote them. I can't imagine how any new affiliates would. Existing affilaites who can make the 10 player min rule I would suggest that their rule is a reflection of the mentality towards affiliates.

Thanks..

10 active players per week! Ridiculous.

It's interesting that it is the most reputable (from the players point of view) sportsbooks like Bookmaker and BetCris that are coming out with this nonsense.

Ultimately, these companies are going to get crushed if they aren't working fairly with affiliates. Firstly, even the bigger affiliates will move away from promoting them heavily.

Secondly, though, ultimately, the USA will regulate online gambling instead of criminalize it and at that point, the real brand name sports betting companies will completely dominate the market. At that point it will be BetCris who?!
