Ontario Online Gambling Revenue Jumps 30% Before New Operators Arrive
Ontario’s regulated online gambling market continued its upward trend in June 2026, as player spending and operator revenue recorded year-over-year increases of roughly 30%.
The province’s licensed online gambling platforms reported a combined handle of $9.46 billion for the month. That marked a 30.3% rise from the $7.26 billion recorded in June 2025. The result placed June among Ontario’s biggest months since the regulated market began, with only a handful of months posting higher totals. March 2026 still holds the monthly record after reaching $9.59 billion in total wagers.
Operators also experienced significant revenue growth during the month. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached $400.6 million, representing a 30.6% increase compared with the same month a year earlier. While June’s figure came in below May’s result, it remained one of the strongest performances since Ontario introduced regulated online gambling.
December 2025 continues to hold the record for the province’s highest monthly GGR, when operators collected $425.6 million.
The market has now exceeded $400 million in monthly revenue six times since operators first crossed that mark in November 2025.
Ontario Collects Millions as Online Activity Expands
The province received $80 million in tax revenue from June’s gambling activity through its 80-20 revenue-sharing model. Since Ontario’s regulated iGaming market launched in April 2022, government revenue from the sector has passed $2.5 billion.
Player participation also reached a high point during the month. Licensed operators recorded more than 1.3 million active player accounts in June, the highest level since January. Those accounts generated an average operator revenue of $304.
Online casino games remained the largest part of the market. Casino wagering accounted for 88% of all cash bets placed during June, with total casino handle reaching $8.30 billion. The figure represented the third-highest monthly total ever recorded in Ontario and increased 30.5% compared with June 2025.
Casino operators earned $316.8 million in revenue during the month, making up 79% of the province’s total online gambling GGR. Although the amount was slightly lower than May’s record $326.4 million, it still represented a 30.4% annual increase.
Sports betting also produced strong numbers during June, supported by the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Sports Wagering Crosses $1 Billion Milestone in June
Ontario sportsbooks accepted $1.03 billion in bets during the month. It marked the fourth time in the first six months of 2026 that sports betting activity surpassed the $1 billion level.
The total was 6% higher than May’s figure and climbed 34.5% compared with June 2025, when the World Cup-related demand had not yet affected betting activity.
Sports betting operators generated $78.6 million in revenue, representing 20% of the province’s overall online gambling GGR. Revenue from sportsbooks increased 34.4% from the previous year.
Online poker remained a smaller part of the market, contributing about 1% of both total wagers and revenue.
The monthly figures cover private operators licensed within Ontario’s regulated iGaming system. Activity from the province’s government-owned Ontario Lottery and Gaming platform is excluded from these numbers.
DAZN Bet and Hard Rock Bet Enter Ontario Market
Ontario’s regulated market had 48 licensed operators running 82 websites when the June figures were recorded. However, the results did not reflect the arrival of two major operators that entered the province around the end of the month and shortly afterward.
DAZN Bet launched in Ontario on June 30, marking the sports streaming company’s first gambling operation in North America. The company later expanded into Alberta after that province launched its own regulated iGaming market on July 13.
DAZN Bet already operates in several European markets, including Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Richard Rawlinson, Managing Director of Canada at DAZN Bet, said that the company plans to combine its international sports brand with a product designed specifically for Canadian customers.
