Stacking Order - Z-Index

Anyone familiar with stacking order as in z-index? I was playing around last night with toggling a vertical nav menu over content for smaller screens.

Similar to a technique used before windows called page flipping. Back then you could write your content off screen in video memory and then set the page as active, thus making it appear instantly, pretty much what's done in computer video games.

Although I'm not sure if Google thinks this is hidden or not? Thoughts anyone?

Z index =pain in the arse for me, so gave up. Users will have to deal with nav in-front of free-play games, oh wait "know one plays them anyway"

Just in my 2cents, but prob not what you are after.

css z-index needs the position set or it doesn't work.
