Hello guys, im in the process of creating a educational poker affiliate site.

I'd like to ask for some experienced opinion on that nieche.

How many players do you convert, in %?

Is it still worth it?

Is it hyper competitive or still rewarding enough?`

I am myself a professional poker player and have the plan to educate all my new sign-ups with strategy videos and live streams.

Hope for some productive answers, thanks!

Doesn't helping your own players to win kinda defeat the purpose of being an affiliate for profit, or am I missing the point here? If they win, then you end up with a negative balance, so if they win, you lose.

Not in poker. In poker you make money on "rake" no matter if players win or lose, you actually hope you have winning players that play longer and make you more money, complete opposite of casinos.

Hey Kapitalo. You hired me to write a few articles for your site a few months ago, and I have still not received payment for my work. Can you please settle your account and give me the payment you owe me? Don't be a deadbeat.

You need a therapist. Childish idiot, find anything written of you on my website and I give you 50k. You wrote 300 words of trash and then had a mental breakdown. Fix your problems

You are a scammer and a liar, and you cheated me over $20. That is how much your word and self respect is worth. $20. That is just totally pathetic.

About the original topic...

I think the educational market is very competitive right now, guessing you have to very a very popular player or same some strong contacts. But of course, you can try. I'm guessing some different approach of educational content, not the tradicional one may work, but lots, LOTS of work are required.

I have seen lots of educational sites closed cause the required content is huge and a big team need to be put in place.

About "second topic" I'm a new guy so cannot just comment about it :)

To a point yes. However, if all you deliver is winning players in today's environment, you will fall out of favor with your affiliate manager. When that happens, you will be approached and forced to balance out your traffic or suffer a loss of commissions and perhaps your entire sheet in some circumstances.

I've seen this happen before to those types of affiliates who do nothing but court winning pros. It is especially prevalent within the ranks of those affiliates who do under the table rakeback deals, endorse and promote VPN useage and document faking, etc. Their deals, and subsequently their income, do not last...

Very interesting PROF! Thanks for the inside. Makes absolute sense what you say as the poker site barely benfitit of such affiliates which are also in breach of their terms.

There are also a number of sites who have implemented systems where winning players rake is discounted, black box style, and one is paid only a fraction of what their actual rake is. This started with OnGame's "Essence" system but has spread to many operators. iPoker was the next biggest to implement such a system. Then Bodog brands picked it up. I think Unibet uses something like this, but I can't be sure b/c, well, screw Unibet.

Wow, man. It is very interesting to hear from someone with experience. That poker sites don't like winning players too much gets certainly clear if you are a winning player as well. I recently reviewed Naural8, and they go as far as blocking winning players (in some sort). Makes you wonder if all this is worth it

They aren't the only site or poker network to block winning players. It has happened on at least half a dozen networks. It certainly isn't like the good old days. I remember when sites used to give 9% interest on bankrolls, buy me fancy steak and wine dinners when my bank wires were late in arriving, and all sorts of other goodies.

Nowadays, pros aren't catered to at most poker sites. And shunned at others.

It's all about the recs. However, for an affiliate, a single pro can be worth 100 recreational players commission wise. :(

That's why i try to integrate a pokerschool onto my website, to help them get winning players. But maaaaan, its a long road. Gold old days were indeed good. I used to make 2-3k daily with poker, no you take on digit of off that number..

Yes, the good old days. Recruiting nothing but pros and making a killing. Just not possible any longer. The market has changed.

As a non-poker aff, please forgive my silly question but I don't get why these networks would block winning players if they're making money from the rake?

Well, the sites look at it differently these days. More holistically.

Site takes in 100,000 in deposits from 1,000 fish and pays for deposit costs.
Fish lose 80,000 to sharks.
20,000 in rake is generated among the sharks and fish, though the sharks pay most of it.
The sharks withdraw 80,000 and the site pays for withdrawal fees.
So now you have something like:

100,000 * 5% = $5,000
80,000 * 5% = $4,000
$20,000 in rake
So down to $11,000 in profit. This does not account for deposit bonuses for the new 1,000 players. Nor does it account for loyalty rewards for the sharks.
Next thing you know, the site is only taking in about 5 cents on the deposited dollar.

Compared to casino or sports where the take is an order of magnitude higher.

Thus now many sites are trying to dissuade sharks from playing so that the money sticks around on site longer. Churns more rake such that more is earned and less is withdrawn.
