A British man who ran an illegal gambling operation via WhatsApp has been handed a 30-week suspended jail sentence and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service after failing to pay a customer’s £269,000 account balance. Haydon Simcock, 40, of Stoke-on-Trent was also ordered to pay £230,000 in compensation and £60,000 in Gambling Commission costs following a probe by the UK Gambling Commission and Staffordshire Police. Simcock admitted providing and advertising unlicensed gambling services. The case highlights regulators’ ongoing efforts to crack down on unauthorised betting activity and protect consumers from harm.
