There are many people who do not know much on alexa ranking. Do you belong to the same group? This is not unnatural because this is an industry which many people are completely unaware of. Though primarily used by the internet professionals, it is largely in use by the general public today. It is extremely helpful in the sense that it helps in the information of the current status of the website in accordance with the ranks of the competitors. There are many more things to be learnt of alexa. Does anyone possess an idea on this?

A couple of years ago we used to care a lot about our Alexa ranking, as of late just like Google pr we don't pay much attention to it anymore. I know advertising companies still place a lot of emphasis on a site's Alexa ranking especially if they want to advertise on it.

Alexa can be manipulated and numbers inflated.
in this game its not always the amount of traffic you get its the quality , KW's are more important than alexa rankings , if you get tons of traffic to free casino bonus your conversions and earnings will reflect this. If you rank for a KW like e.g casinos accepting pay pal , you might only have a few visitors but those few will convert and have a higher player value.

Advertisers nowadays don't even pay that much attention to Alexa, because if they are planning to pay a flat fee for an advertising spot, they will usually ask you for your traffic numbers and then you will have to back that up with a screenshot from your Google Analytics.

I couldn't care less about alexa - not really sure why anyone would.

The only thing I care about is my traffic numbers (and ultimately my net revenue) - and I already know that...

Alexa's main measurement technology is based on people installing their Firefox toolbar. Obviously as a measurement tool this approach has many problems. it is open to manipulation and overall pretty low accuracy.

If you are looking at your own site, yes, Google Tools are the best.

Marit i use a good tool from Link research tools called QDC (Quick Domain Compare) where you can compare your site against up to 5 of your competitors for important SEO metrics. or you could use moz and set up a tracking campaign comparing your sites against competitors for certain keywords. If theres a certain site you want to compare yourselves against let me know via PM or Skype me and ill have a quick look into it for you
