My sports betting tips site is currently around a good number visitors today and growing. About 15% of users are from UK, 35% from continental Europe, 10% USA and the rest are a smattering of world countries.

If my goal is to be independent and I would need $3,000/month to get to that point, in your experience how many daily visitors would I need to reach to achieve that goal?

I understand it depends on the traffic type/country which I described above. Could anyone ballpark it or give an educated guess?

If it helps, about 20% is western europe and 15% is eastern europe.

1,000 visitors today means 1k visitors a day or 1k monthly visitors?

Pageviews/day are not the same thing as visitors/day. Can you post the number of unique visitors/day?

I would say... Visits are not a smart way to judge that. If you need 3k a month to independent.. I would recommend you going independent after you are able to save up 9k-18k

First, if you are able to save 9-18k (from this) you are headed in the right direction and should be able to go independent... I say 9-18k because you should have AT LEAST 3-6 months of savings before you go full time (depending on how easy / hard it would be for you to get another job if something happens.. Some months you will make nothing, if that happens for more then 3 months in a row for me... I would be forced to find another way to earn income, but I would have an additional 3 months to figure it out).

The above is if you have nothing / no one to fall back on... If you can get away with not working for a while... You may be able to do it with less.

Depends on the place you live. Where I am right now with €18k I can go up to 2 years with no need to work ;)

True :) I was just saying based off his number of him saying he needed 3k a month to go independent :)

Whatever it would cost you to survive 3-6 months... I would save that up first... Numbers don't work so well because Google can drop you in an instance, and it can take time to get back up.. Or your site can get hacked, go offline... and your rankings could fall from that, or a program could go under, you could have a jackpot winner/s take all your earnings several months in a row.. Any number of things could happen, but some of those are likely to happen at some point, usually at the worst time... A good rule of thumb is 3-6 months in general for anything you do, that's how I judge it..

Visitors/day is around 600. In regard to the other posts about saving money first, I understand the wisdom of that but I don't have a full-time job right now I'm in college. Just curious how many visitors or pageviews it would take to get to ~3k/month.

I understand the google risks, but have you been hacked before? Any tips on preventing that?

Not really hacked.. More like webservers screwing up. But the damn bots have been on the attack, attacking wordpress blogs all the time and can take you down offline for a while if you don't set up preventive measures. If it happens often enough.. using shared hosting they might tried to kick you... That happened to a few of my sites. Tips? Mainly make backups... That's a simple (but important) fix for most hacking attempts. Google, you just have to adapt to.. Its like a bull... Jump on and ride it as long as you can :) If it knocks you off, get back on and try again. Stay away from blackhat seo and you can see some long term rankings.

As far as that, I don't really count visits... Just sign ups to deposits.. 100 visits from a really targeted keyword can make you a healthy income while 10000 visits from a poor keyword can make you nothing. For example I get a lot of clicks and traffic for a bonus site I have, and don't really make much of anything. While my non-bonus sites make the majority of my income.

(And ALL my traffic is American, so that would make a difference as well.. As far as conversion rates)
