Google Launches New Ranking Signal

Google announced that it will be expanding its use of “mobile-friendliness” as a ranking signal beginning on April 21. That gives you a little less than two months to make sure your site fits the bill. The change will go into effect across all languages, and Google says it will have a “significant impact” in its search results. Read More Here

Are your Sites Mobile Friendly?

Time dust off the mobile plugins as a few of my sites don't seem to pass! Luckily my mobile sites pass the test :)

Thanks for the link to the tool BP, helpful!

My sites passed :)
As a heads up, if your using WP and your theme claims to be responsive BUT you've added additional plugins which improve functionality, it may not pass the mobile test.

If this happens to you, a good way to find the issue is...

Turn off all plugins and run the test.

If this returns a valid response, return to site and activate one (1) plugin at a time and re-run the mobile test. Keep doing this until you find the plugin which is causing the issue ;)

I'm assuming that non-mobile friendly sites will only be affected in mobile serps, right? Or are they rolling it over to desktop searches as well as a smaller ranking signal (ie: if you can't be bothered to make a site mobile friendly...).

Doesn't seem to be a clear answer from google on this.

Wouldn't the user expect to see the same sites on the keywords they search for? a large percent find their favorites sites by a certain phrase.. So it will be interesting to see if non mobile sites get punished on a whole, as opposed to just mobile? and will this affect EMD sites? I think there is going to be a big shake up.. many of the larger sites are holding out because they are scared of a ranking drop.. that may just come anyhow

I looked at stats for 4 days on one of my non-gambling sites and 23% used a mobile browser. Its not a mobile ready site.

Consider Facebook and other BIG maintream site, their mobile usage is huge. Hence mobile friendly for mainstream sites etc is logical.

As apposed to casino sites, where using a mobile is a royal pain in the butt.

Here are some average browser stats from my network:
FireFox: 45.3% | Opera: 31.4% | Chrome: 8.5% | IE: 7.1% | Mobile: (combined - Android/iPhone) 4.1% | Safari: 2.7% | Other: (Lynx etc etc) 0.9%.

tested my website, it passed the test but...there is an "automatic mobile converter" provided by WP (I'm using the version 4.1.1 the latest one).
My website was responsive but with this new function everything go to b*****s :S :(
Anyone knows how to remove this WP new function?

My tip is to make your sites responsive using css. That way your sites will fit and work with any device. It may take some time but it's worth all the work.

My site passed gooogles test btw :)

Around 60% of my traffic is Mobile, I have also noticed many keyword terms that were previously been high competition dropping, I mean like jumping from 45 to 5th place on serps on certain Casino related keywords although I am primarily sports,
