Who out there is in a league and obsessive about it?

Which leads me to the real question.. how many of you have started promoting Fantasy Football or Daily Fantasy Football? There are Fanduel, DraftKings and Draftstreet as the top guys. Both have affiliate programs. It is immensely popular, apparently.

I tried promoting Fanduel a few years back, but didn't get much off of it, curious if anyone has done well.

This fantasy football stuff (points awarded based on individual player performances) is a surprising sub-culture and fans of it are right into the game it seems.

I've played both the NFL, and European football (soccer) versions at one time and couldn't get as wrapped up in it myself. I was only prepared to spend 20 minutes a week, and eventually forgot some weeks, which meant that my team didn't do so well ... and when you're not winning because some of your players didn't even play then it's not much fun.
;-)

Still they were free entry games - which probably explains my lack of commitment. Fun for the first month or so ... then a bit of same-old, same-old, ... meh ...

I am also interested to hear from anyone who has tried this game as an affiliate or serious player (playing with entry fees) to understand the financials behind it all - is it a viable segment in sports gambling?

I have played. It certainly is something you have to keep up with. Baseball is pretty big in the USA as well for daily fantasy sports. I have only tried NFL. I've only won a decent amount 1 time at $420 on a $10 buy in. The people that do it keep up with it minute by minute. There are definitely those that use it as a job. On the big tournaments ($1 million or more) big players come out and buy up a lot of the contest... They may buy 30 tickets in a 100 ticket game. The buy in is very expensive in those, but if they win - they win big (of course they lose big if not).

There is definitely a culture out there and it is growing quickly. That is why I am interested. As mentioned, I tried previously (Fanduel). Their aff program was half-assed then. Now they are using Income Access software at least. Probably a bit better organized.

I'm in the middle of a fantasy football draft right now actually!

I haven't played around with Fantasy affiliate stuff yet, but I'm also interested to hear about the experiences of others who have...

Apparently nobody? :) I would be interested in trying again. I do know the owners of a major fantasy football site, but I think they only take media buys. Hard to judge by that. And they also have one of the top 5 apps on iPhone/iPad - so that isn't easy to relate to website money.

ha, sorry - was out fort he night! Yes, there are some revshares :) Fanduel used to have revshare for sure. The big ones are Fanduel and DraftKings (Drafstreet is gone now). Both offer revshare. There is a third one that just popped up also - I'll get back to you on that one.

The question is how do you rank for relevant keywords when you are inadvertently going up against ESPN, NFL, etc in google serps?

You can't beat ESPN but you can target really longtails. The question still is would they be profitable? Fanduel is all over the commercials on TV, in the news and on the Web. They are making buku bucks!

So Fanduel has the public's mindshare when it come to thinking about where to play this in the US?
Very useful to know - I'll have to check out their site to see what sort of program it is.

Fanduel has recently become the dominant advertiser. During football. That wasn't the case 6 months ago with Draftkings was advertising a lot.

Its just been recently gooner, I see them on TV a lot now, twitter advertised hashtags, and on facebook ads. But this is the most exposure I have seen. Before this season I just knew them from seeing them on review sites.

Well... Fanduel has been the biggest for some time now. They always advertise on satellite radio. Have for a few years now. But Draftkings have had periods of higher advertising as well. Fanduel has been tops for some time in both advertising revenue as well as dominance in the industry.

Hopefully some of the new guys will come out to compete - but it is tough to get started in that industry as nobody wants to play in a contest against only a few people (because there is no money in that kind of play)

I play fantasy NBA with a group of friends, we've been playing for 9 years now and it's pretty fun.
We play a 10 team league with $150 entry so winner takes around $1K.
I've played free entry leagues as well but like Gooner lost interest in those.
Tried NFL once too but basically donated my money on that one, all my top players got injured early on.

I got an email from Fanduel, that The FanDuel App has Arrived! The title was
"Playboy Mansion or $175k? How About Both"

FanDuel has definitely stepped up their advertising and continuing to do so. The fantasy section on the review site is still very new and is not getting much exposure, FanDuel has not monetized yet :(

Edgar, what do you mean FanDuel has not monetized yet? Are we talking about the same site?

Ah ok sorry for confusion.

I don't see them on your main pages (just from a quick glance). Are you still promoting them?
