I am planning on playing in some online casinos, what is better though? Gambling in person or gambling online?

It is really personal preference. You will get better games in a land-based casino. But you will get convenience and some pretty high quality games online.

I agree with Guard Dog, it's a very personal preference: maybe you'll discover that you prefer to play surrounded by the sounds of hundreds of machines and voices and people that cry or jump for joy, or maybe you prefer stay alone with your beer or whisky on you couch and watching TV with nobody that disturbs you :)

Great point!

And to follow up on that... maybe you don't mind going to a casino and smelling smoke :) Lots of casinos allow smoking. Also - maybe you enjoy free drinks (even if watered down).

Good and bad to everything!! PM me and I can certainly guide you to some casinos that may have good enough games to rival a land-based casino. Up to you, no pressure.

I do like the atmosphere of real B&M casinos - but really they just can't compete with online due to their MUCH larger overheads and operating restrictions due to local laws.

Online is better IMHO because:
You can play any time of the day or night for 5 minutes or 5 hours (or more)
No problem getting on the game you want.
Better payout % on most games.
Better betting limits on most games (High AND Low).
You get generous bonuses to increase your playtime & maybe help you win.
You don't have to worry about parking your car and/or drink driving.
You can smoke (if the missus allows it in your house...)
You can play while naked... ;)
etc...

For me it comes down to luck, I seem to have much better luck when playing online. I find I also bet very differently online then in a land based casino. I usually just play blackjack online, and I bet bigger.. or Braver.

However when in a land based casino, I usually end up spending all I bring with me.. If its not the games then its the drinks :)

Also when playing online, you don't have a dealer to tip.

Hello,

many land based casinos die in Germany. 15 years ago 500 players came in every day. Today the director is happy if 20 are coming. I played most in land based casinos in the past because of biased wheels immediately after thunderstorm (drop of temperature) and other systems. It was the time online casinos wasn't so present as today.

The difference between true random numbers and pseudo random (e.g. Excel or older online casinos RNG) is very important for a roulette player.

If a live dealer is really live and not a recorded stream, and a RNG is really random and not rigged, then playing in an online casino is as fair as in a land based casino.

Of course, many players have problems with discipline. Virtual money is only a click, and then it's gone. Placing real money on a real table is a different story.

Hi,

I think online casinos are far better than land-based casino. Because in online casinos, you can play by sitting at home and enjoy the games of varied themes. You can play online games anytime, anywhere which means you have access to the casino games for 24hr

You can play while naked...

You kept that fetish well hidden KK :D

Gambling in person or gambling online?

Everyone has chipped in enough Pros for online casinos.
One BIG advatange of playing at Land Based Casino, you get paid instantly - there are no withdrawal limits. You walk up to the cage and cash in your chips.

Playing online... well it's not alway like that. You generally have to wait X number of days. Most online casinos only pay out Monday to Friday during business hours. If it's a public holiday or say Easter you can be waiting 5 - 6 days for winnings.

There are online casinos who pay 24/7 but more often than not, most don't.
Then there are the widthrawal limits, maximum amount you'll be paid each week. Ironic that one - never heard a casino refuse a deposit though ;)

They both have their pros and cons as stated.
You can win more online than in the land casino but with online there are a lot of bonus rules to adhere to. USA land casinos don't really have but 2 or 3 bonus rules and you know who is getting your money. (ie.. AA/RJ)

I think player points are better awarded online but I don't play online so others will know better.

Last time I went to the land casino I playing a WMS slot called Big Money Show. Its 5 lines $5 a spin and I noticed my player card registered a point for every 3 spins (ie.. $15 wagered). I think that is pretty bad, isn't it?

You hit that square on the head, Leopold :)

It's akin to dropping bombs with a drone, easier to do than phyiscally shooting an enemy at point blank range.

Unless your have online VIP status... then you get much better loyalty point conversions.

Otherwise you'd only get 1 point for $10 wagered. To cash in $10 worth of chips, you'd need to wager $10,000 on slots.

Table Games, Video Poker and Progressive slots generally give far less. Meaning you have to wager more to get 1 point.

The only reason I mentioned points was a casino patron was complaining to me one time on how he could not win, bla bla, bla and blathered further on about how the casino gave squat for points. I never really looked into the wagering/points conversion until he mentioned it.

I have done better winning wise online then I have in a land based casino.. Meaning I have cashed out more.. When playing in a land casino I am usually more about the experience so I tend to drink and play until I am out of money lol.. It is easier for me to stick to cashing out X amount online. Usually I deposit $50 and try to reach the cashout threshold and then cashout.

Either way, playing online for me is just a substitute when I can't get the real thing.. and need a quick fix ;)

Both are gambling but for me it's a completely different experience and cannot be compered. B&M it is more about the overall experience: sounds, drinks, girls :) - gambling is another aspect of that.
Playing online for me is "pure"gambling. I can drink or listen to music, but I am much more focused on the game itself.

I worked in some B&M casinos around Eastern Europe, and I prefer online casinos for this reason. Maybe just bad memories or something, also as a professional gambler you have more options online (unless you count cards). Someone said earlier that for profit, you have to play online, that's actually not the whole truth. You can 'make money' live if you play a small edge game and get your free meal or drink every 2-3 hours. It's definitely net positive (even though online is better for hourly rates).

It depends what your playing for also... A land based casino is one of the only places where I can go, have a great night.. Drink, Eat, Play games and have the chance of leaving with more then I went in with, or breaking even! If you are talking 'net positive' a B&M casino blows any other most other forms of entertainment out of the water! At the end of the day, I pick land based every time, but to me they are hardly comparable. They are so different I don't even consider them the same. When I want to play at home, I do.. When I want to go to the casino I do.. But to really compare the two as the same activity is like comparing reading a book to watching a movie. You get the same story, but experience it very differently! The social aspect IMO is what makes it completely different and un-comparable.

- So basically exactly what Kadabra said... Except I wrote this^ and then read that! lol

I hate it when someone stands behind me at the land casino and watches my bonus round.

Sorry about that ;)

I also prefer the B&M by a long shot. I like the slots online and the ability to play from home (as few options as there are), but I would go to a B&M if given the choice every time. The games are way better - it's really not even close.

They opened a new casino here in MA last June, near Foxboro Stadium. I haven't been to it as I hear its packed. Its small with 1200 slots.
First week grossed $6.1 million. State collected $3 million in taxes.
