does anyone know a good tool to check how many word a website has?

If you are looking for a webpage words counter, I can recommend this online tool - wordcounter . net/website-word-count
It's simple and free, as well shows all the words common and keywords.

I checked it out - sadly it only gives the word count for 1 page. You dont know one that would summarize the word count for the whole website

Well, I've heard nice feedbacks about InSite 5 (Inspyder), but didn't use it myself. It's not free and you can try trial version maybe.
Btw, what is the purpose to count words of the whole website?

I am curious to compare my website word count with others in my niche to compare rankings for keywords. Dont know if I would find anything of value doing this. but unless I try I would never know. What is your opinion?

i think it might be interesting - at least to check the top sites. i assume it will go to 1000-2000 area

If you would like to know how many words has a particular webpage (not the whole website), you can try to use some browser extensions like https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/word-counter-plus
