What are peoples opinions on online gambling becoming banned in the UK?

Will it happen? Feel free to go into as much detail as you want....

No, why do you think so? Gambling in the UK is huge and been so since the 60's.

No, I really don't think so. It's been around for a very long time.

Baldy has the best answer as says it all but writing 'no because it's been around a long time' is a bit daft, in fact laughable.

The real answer would be no because it generates huge revenues for the government in tax, employs hundreds of thousands of people, generates millions in sponsor money for sports, helps populate almost empty high streets etc etc

Laughable? Wow, ok Mr Wikipedia

I wasn't referring to your post as you put a bit of context to it saying it was huge. I was referring to the poster above me who has a habit of posting for the sake of posting (spamming) on another forum

It's difficult for governments to ban something once they've made it legal and people have
gotten a taste for it. A good example would be alcohol prohibition in the United States.

I don't see it ever being banned in the UK, but I do think that they will tightly regulate it going forward.

Now that some of the US states have legalized online gambling within their own borders and they are
generating tax revenue, I also don't see any chance for the US federal government to ban online gambling.

It's unlikely to be banned, as gambling along with cigarettes and alcohol are vital taxes for most countries to survive.

However, it could get legislated into a highly taxed and uneconomic business, resulting in a few monopolistic corporations that decide that they don't want or need affiliates at all.

So our roles as online middlemen MIGHT disappear - but legal gambling will be here to stay in the UK.

No chance.

However, they must be looking for a way to regulate it a bit more. They handed out way too many licenses to crappy white label providers.

I think with action against withdrawal terms, misleading bonus terms, slow payments, etc a lot of these underfunded sites have to fold.

Definitely there will be more regulations and restrictions, however they will not kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. There will be another law amendment in the end of Sept 2018, which most likely will be against spammy email and SMS campaigns.

The govt makes way too much money from gambling tax to go and ban it.

I'm with the guys who reckon it won't be banned.I agree it's been around for too long, plus I won't think they can ban online without having to ban the high street too.

Definitely it won't be closed. However, regulations will be much stricter for operators. Heavy penalties will continue and some small operators might not continue their operations.

I don't do to much in the UK market... So I don't follow it to closely, so why the question? Has there been recent news that would make one thing the current climate is going to change soon?
