I was thinking of getting a SERP tracker. I have been using CuteRank (free version), but was thinking of trying something better.

What is the best tool out there for this? I want something that will help me track progress of keywords that I can get trends from at the very least.

CuteRank used to get me blocked with google a lot, it uses your ip to refresh the system, SEO Serp Mojo on Android was pretty good for me, not sure if they have desktop but it worked better than most desktop programs

I used to use RankTracker but don't bother checking ranks any more these days.

I just use free proxy servers to check my site's rank in different search engines.

If and when I do, always manual checks cause I know my target phrases (keywords). Other than that, everything I need to know is in WMT or G analytics.

I use MonitorBacklinks. It tracks ranking changes for the keywords you add, in addition to new or lost backlinks.

Only been using it a few months, but am pleased with it so far.

I also use the data from webmaster tools and analytics to find new keywords to check manually..

I said I don't use anything but really meant as far as any software program is concerned.
I'll do manual checks now and then with the Chrome incog window/tab.

What are SERPs? :p

Seriously - I never check mine.
I already have more work than I can comfortably handle just trying to keep my sites up-to-date - trying to react to trends or whatever is something I don't have time for.

I guess I am just looking for something that can show trends of where i stand in the rankings for specific terms :) I'm looking to key in on a few terms on one of my sites and it would be nice to see how that is working.

I know, the changes can be overwhelming.

Google WMT shows the average rank position.

I always check my serps, especially when targeting new pages, it lets me know on if I need to change anything, or work more at the page.. My site is not as old as some the sties here so the post and forget doesnt work just yet, I have to constantly tweak, and so far i have seen great results

Manually checking your serps can be misleading because you'll get cookies which place the sites you frequent in higher positions in search engines. You may also have different ranks in different countries.

I use SerpBook for rank checking - they're not free but very accurate, support multiple languages and have a good alert system. I also use SerpWoo to track trends and other stuff in search engines.

Rank tracking is a must for anyone who is serious about SEO. If you don't track your data, you're just guessing, which is not a very good way to do business.
