Today we received this message from one of the casinos we promote:

'' we went over the last months reports and we noticed a technical mistake from our side. you got over paid in July.
you can see in the report the real commission and what was paid -1500€ extra.
since it was our mistake we don't accept to receive the money back however we should put it as a balance in your account and your future commission will be deducted from the balance until you will reach it.
sorry for the inconvenience.
....... deal was approved and we are keen to start the campaign. ''

Have you ever experienced something like this?

No, i experience the opposite almost every month. €10 - €150 too few. It is annoying but then again, it is my responsibility to check if i am getting paid enough.

yes, happened to me 2-3 times. I think it's fully fair and kept promoting the brands. In both cases the amount wasn't high and took me a month or so to cover.

It's very different from negative carryover thing where i would remove the brand in most cases. Here for me it makes total sense to earn it back (or to pay it back).

No. But their response seems more than fair to me!

Better than nearly always being short-paid as I often am, due to processing and exchange fees.
With one operator I work with, I have been losing more than 10% of my commission due to this :(

Yes many times, the way they are handling it is fair.

We were only overpaid once. We e-mailed the affiliate program and let them know that they
overpaid. They paid us the right amount twice.. so we received two large identical payments.

The affiliate program e-mailed us back with an arrogant response.. basically telling us that they
know what they are doing and they aren't a bunch of morons that would send the payment twice.

The affiliate program eventually closed. My guess it had to do with bad accounting. LOL

I think it's fair to repay it to them with future commissions.
Just be sure to check the past and future payments: if they were able to pay you too much, they might as well be able to pay you too little (and maybe then you won't get an email).

Seen this happen a few times - sometimes its been an identical amount paid twice, once I saw an extra zero/comma typo in the amount (which was already 4 figures to start with!). Working in finance is tough, so not surprised that someone might get brainfarts like this every now and then. In case you will ever have truly strict auditors, its best to get these sorted! They wouldn't look at random unwarranted payments too kindly.

That is absolutely normal, being overpaid couple times myself and to me the way how they trying to fix it seems to be absolutely fair.
