Of course this website AGD is full of webmasters and socialites. But I'm wondering if you guys and girls have non gambling related websites or social pages?

What kinds of non gambling sites do you have?

What money is there to be made outside of gambling?

Do you use your other sites to target traffic back to your gambling sites or are they standalone?

Is there still any money in porn?

Etc!

[btw, I think there may have been a few threads about this recently that you might be interested having a look for as there was some interesting info in them.]

For us, we do a fair bit of non gambling / mainstream stuff - mainly local information, some sports/fitness and a series of blogs (those are fairly new tbh though). Revenue is a combination of adsense and affiliate - definitely lower rates than in gaming, but traffic is higher, there's lower competition, more niches to work in and much easier to get natural links/shares.

My wife and I actually work together (she's sitting across from me right now) - for the most part I mainly deal with the iGaming whilst she heads up the mainstream side of the business, but we do also work on each others projects as needed. For example, she usually deals with any kind of brick and mortar gambling section (local casinos, racecourses, bingo halls etc..) and I do most of the tech stuff.

The majority of the time the two sides of the business are completely separate, but there are a few times where there's overlap or opportunities to promote between sites (eg: a local info site and a brick and mortar casino site have a natural connection).

I used to have web hosting guides, shopping sites and dating sites.

There's money to be made in every industry, but not as much as online gambling. You can make good money from many other non-gambling affiliate programs if you have some serious targeted traffic.

They were standalone.

Is there still any money in porn?
The Internet has mega tons of free porn, so I don't know why people would want to pay for it.

The money isn't in the porn movies, it's webcams and adult dating. It takes forty thousand unique visitors to convert movies. There is money in adult, no doubt but go for webcams and dating. If you want specifics pm me

In so far as porn, tubes killed it.
I mean who's going to pay to join an adult site when you can get it for free. It's nothing like the old days. If you wanted the good stuff, you had to pay for it! I agree with edgar76 the money is in live webcams and adult dating. Most if not all of those tube sites are pushing livejasmin Dot com (webcam). Though like gaming, the competition is fierce.

Though moving away from the sex industry/gaming...

As baldi put forward and I agree here too, with so many choices and niches to promote, the competition is heaps lower, albeit so too is income. Though, nothing is stopping you from casting your nets wide through varied business types. In my experience, I've found ranking sites in mainstream is a walk-in-the-park compared to gaming. Plus once your nail it, these serps are not highly volitile as gaming. I'm convinced G uses a tweaked set of alogs for gaming and what not, as apposed to mainstream. I've got (maintream) sites which have held top 5 spots year in year out with little to no change, even when the G animals marched into town, they've held solid.

I do think, with our experience in gaming, if one was to look out of this verticle, for other affiliate gains, you'd certainly be able to turn a buck. The key as always, is finding something your interested/passionate in and turn this into a money making venture ;)

Lets face it, I'm sure even the super affiliates aren't making anywhere near what they used to. Add in this hacking epidemic, blackhat, spammers, shaving, programs closing or reneging on life time deals and every man/women & their dog entering gaming these days, the average affiliate who was making nice coin each month, is now feeling the pinch!

Look at other alternatives now, would be a wise choice, given the current state of our industry. Better to plan now, get stuff up than wait. IMHO our industry is going to implode.

Feeling the same. This industry has gone downhill very quickly in the space of 12 months or so. Advertisers are feeling the pinch with new laws and regulations, market saturation and new taxes, and affiliates are getting hit hard with fewer earnings, or just plain theft and bad practice from some companies. At this rate, give it 2 more years and a lot of the small affiliates will be gone, and those super affiliates with low outgoings may survive, whereas the likes of some super affiliates who employ 20-50 people may struggle.

That surprises me - does it out perform going directly to a booking agent?

Tbh, I've never looked into them as I figured the earnings would be lower as you're effectively an affiliate of an affiliate... although maybe the conversions are higher?

I definately wouldnt even consider porn, as has been said the landscape is very different from a decade ago.

The hotels thing is a surprise considering how many massive sites there are out there basically acting as affiliates.

Definately some good food for thought in this thread. I guess the main thing is to find a niche within each persons own are of interest and expertise and go for it. Make a good website with good content and the revenue will trickle along after.

When I find sites where the information is informative and displays a clear indication the person is passionate about their interest, then I'm more likely to follow their recommendations.
I've been entertaining the idea of commencing a local vistors guide, to my city and state, here in Australia. While there are websites like this, they all seem to have generic info. There is definitely a lack on home grown knowldge to say restaurants (including reviews - we eat out a lot), to quirky or off the beaten track destinations etc etc.

The wife is an avid photographer and has great PR skills. Would be a project we could both get involved in.

I have been racking my brain for the past few years searching of anything that would make even half the money igaming can make... One of my more recent ideas is maybe, mortgage loan broker? I know their is some pretty good money connecting lenders with clients and it seems similar to igaming as one would just be the middle man. IDK if anyone else has any input on this subject that may be more knowledgeable as I know my last lender loaned out to all 50 states. Many a lot of regulations to follow, and some licensing issues, I haven't look that far into it as of yet but its been on my mind..
