okay, this needs a bit of explanation. I've seen keyword domains ranking high, but those domains have no real content, they just redirect to another website (or affiliate-url).

hypothetical example: for keyword "online casino bonus" the domain casino-bon-bonus.org ranks #2 in SERPs. If you click that link you will be redirected to best-casino-bonus-baby.com/casino-bonus.html.

How do they do that? How is it possible to get high ranking with a website which has basically no content! ???

black hat seo hacking? or is there a honorable way to do that?

I am also very surprised about those 1-page-websites and how high they rank some times. Is it all a scam and google just doesn't get it?

its black hat, google gets it and that site will not be ranking in a week or two. That is based on the exact match domain (EMD) algo.

People that do black hat may get away with it for a short period of time, but they will get crushed. It isnt worth it. The key is to build you rankings to last. My sites has some keywords in the domain. However the two reasons i bought them were 1. their age 2. they describe the site

My sites with keywords the name are filled with good content. I am not on page one for my target keyphrases but I am getting their slowly.

Yes they are using a black hat tactic involving 301 redirects and EMD.

It is very shady but works sometimes longer than a week sadly.

Here's what I think some people try to do.

Get a bunch of people to link to you anyway you can.

One such way is to make a directory that is very expensive to join, and give a reciprocal option.

Than after many people point to it after several years, they take down all the links, re-brand it, even 301 it sometimes in a long chain of other 301 trash sites....

It is a disease that need to be weeded out! But currently, the shitty sites have been winning time and again.

When they get taken down, they can never comeback, but they get replaced with other ones frequently enough that it make me want to punch my PC. :)

I've noticed a lot of these lately. I reported one just this morning actually.

If you click on the cached version in the search results you'll see the real website, or at least what Googlebot sees.

The secret for those top SEO rankings are server header hacks/fakings

Check how googlebot reads the header's of those sites.

As one example: check the server response from the redirected site, pretending googlebot is crawling the site.
- when you do a 301 redirect you usually have in Content-Length value on 0, all of those spammy sites have xxx values and much more stuff...

Also, those top ranking urls contain a huge number of nofollow links (opensiteexplorer.org or similiar does not see them)

Google could easily prevent such black hat tactics, just look to which online casinos those sites link to. = ILLEGAL MARKETING METHOD

Do you think Google care about it? They pretend to but all they care is to get more people in adwords. Btw you can not punish someone because some black hat dudes link to them, remember this could be done as an effort to take down the entire operation, aka anti-seo.

It may not be as simple as you think it is...

You are probably right, I can think of ways that would work without harming anyone.
