There is this dog on my way to school. It is enclosed in a fence but it is very aggressive and lunges and barks at me every time I pass it. Normally I wouldn't mind a barking dog, but I have to walk on that road six times a day. Every time before I pass that place, I have to get mentally ready for the menacing dog, and I gotta do it six times a day. And I usually go back to school (university) at 7 pm and walk back home at around 11 pm or 12 am, just imagine it when the dog barks and lunges at me in total darkness. it has persisted for some time now since I moved into the neighborhood. My question is, can I call the police or animal control if it is going to persist into future?

What annoys me the most is that I always walk on the sidewalk. The sidewalk is not a part of their property, and I never trespass on their property. But the dog still menaces me when I pass by. Funny thing is the property belongs to a Lutheran school affiliated with a church next to it, and the dog is nothing like the peaceful church people there.

For any of you who calls me a wimp, I grow up in an urban area without dogs. My mom hates anything furry (except me), so she insisted that we should not have dogs at home. And I don't think anyone would be happy if a dog lunges at you whenever you pass it, six times a day, especially in dark night.

Thanks for any advice.

This gets my call for one of the strangest questions I've ever seen in a casino forum.....

No idea on the dog.....maybe walk on the other side of the road?
Hmmm... maybe the name of the forum - Affiliate Guard DOG - made her think this is some sort of canine control authority! :D

The obvious answers are take a different route, bring a bone with you to distract the dog from going after your leg, etc..
but this looks like one of those "ask a question and return under a different name with the answer" that also includes a
link to a site that would somehow offer assistance. If that is not the case, then I think the first step would be to get some
glasses.. because this forum has nothing to do with dogs, and maybe you'll be able to react better to the dog in the future.

... a dog lunging at me in total darkness would not be my only worry.

Just take a different route to school, because i dont think neither You or animal control / police can shut the dog up. I think they are "protecting" their territory and with barking he/she lets You know that You are facing with badass.

Maybe its good idea for forum owners to make sub-forum for dog related topics :D
