Lately, I've started a campaign on directory submissions. I know that it's not the same SEO tool that it once was, but I wanted to get some current opinions as to whether or not it's worth your time in relation to other SEO practices. As you get into SEO I start to see other webmasters sites a lot. Actually, I enjoy seeing other's sites and say.. "There's bonus geek" etc.. lol..

I noticed that there are a lot of other webmasters who have their links in directories. I don't know if it's recently submitted links OR from a long time ago.

I found a great place to get lists of paid directories:
PaidDirectories.Info - Top 10 Paid Inclusion Directories
That's the list I'm starting with. I want to be sure to get the durectories that have the greatest backlinks etc..

So, do you think submitting to link directories is still worth your time? (Free or Paid)
How much would you spend on a directory submission?

Thanks for the input.

As you said, directory listings are not the SEO technique they used to be.

I wouldn't pay for any directory listings, except maybe Yahoo.

For the free ones, I don't think it is worth your time, better to outsource it to someone from india who will submit you to 100-300 directories for $20.

Kind Regards,

I still do directory submissions, not as many as I used to but still do them. My feeling is if some of the bigger sites can get to the top of google buying a bunch of shit links from unrelated sites, then a link from a directory with a casino page is probably worth the $30 bucks or whatever it is for a permanent link.

I did fall into the trap of doing some of those bidding directories, what a waste of money that was. They are all pr 0 now but no biggie, I learned my lesson.

There are definitely some quality directories out there though such as BOTW. It will cost you $200 for a permanent link but with with their trust and backlink stength its a solid investment imo.

Directory Critic is a great resource for directories.

Best-Web-Directories.com has been reviewing directories since 2004 and has been offering a submission service since January of 2009. For a small fee, we will expertly take on the task of submitting your website to the top free directories. Part of our service is selecting the most appropriate directories. We are extremely choosy when it comes to selecting appropriate directories.

Interestingly, there was a guy wandering LAC with an official BOTW t-shirt on. I found that strangely satisfying LOL.

Yahoo Dir doesnt take online gambling ads, does it?

What up Stevo!!! I can tell you that the 5 websites I clicked on from yahoo dir didn't have any banners on them, so I would make sure I read their terms very carefully before submitting so you have the best shot of being successful. That's probably obvious, but thought I would mention it anyways.

Yeah - maybe they are selective.
Im going to give it a try anyways :p

Only $300 - not the end if they decline..

But why would they considering they have gambling on there now.

Yeah i understand. I thought of that :)

Actually its only one site i am thinking of submitting. It has no banners at all on the homepage and is actually more of a resource website. With articles, news, press releases, promotions.. ect ect.

Mind you the inner pages have banners (one) and the reviews have screen shots and banner on them..

do you think that would be issue? - I think you point out a good caution.

Thanks KEVO!!! LOL - Hey only my most personal friends call me Stevo!!

Since it is you Kev - no problem!! You can call me that anytime - Your an awesome fellow!

Thanks for the tip - I did see your site on many of the directories by the way how do you find them doing for you?

Hard to say man. I probably get a few hits from time to time, but my guess is it's from other webmasters. For me directories are a good starting point for a new site, it helps me get them indexed and get the balling rolling with a few links coming from pages related to gambling which is always good. I just don't go overboard with submissions anymore like I used to.

I'm with Bonusgeek on this - I use directory submissions to get indexed and get a small foothold in the search engines. The thing is that : submissions is all very well and good, but you need to get ONTO the directories. There's loads of services out there that will SUBMIT your sites to thousands of directories, but if you only get listed on 10 or so, what's the point.

I still use digixmas, but only submit to those with PR3 or better, and then only once a month. Really don't put alot of emphasis on directories but is still a piece of the pie to round out your seo. don't even think about using the free verison, just spend the $10 a URL I think it was and get the paid version.

If bigger sites can help you to buy searches, a link from the directory of a casino page would be worth $30 bucks.

Every link counts when your trying to build a strong link profile, and directory submissions are still okay. As long as they don't cost too much e.g. Botw.org. I don't believe in paying too much for a single link as its not likely to make much difference to your rankings. If they are quality directories with a one-time fee, are reasonably priced, and they have a gambling section, then I say go for it.
