I heard this is a great way to rank sites nowadays.
@Mason Jones - Surely you jest!
Private Blog Network (PBN) were, once, able to outsmart Google.
However, that boat has long since sailed, way back in 2014!
Quote from Matt Cutts:
Blackhat SEO fads: like walking into a dark alley, packed with used carsalesmen, who wont show you their cars.
I know it sounds great, like huuuge time saver (linkbuilding sucks ), there are a lot of step by step guides, PBN hostings and so on, but like @AussieDave wrote, it is a waste of time.
Invest that time in more important things..
There are some people that still do PBN's successfully. I've encountered them when picking through the SERPS. It is a lot of work to create and maintain. And eventually, the AI that is Google will connect all the dots and devalue the shit out of the links. Maybe even penalize your domain.
If you want to churn and burn, it can probably still work. For a time. I too think there are better ways to spend your time though.
Spend time to increase Dwell time and reduce bounce rate, keep customer retained. There is you SEO.
I've noticed a lot of PBN's while checking my competition. The problem for them here is if i can easily find them, so will Google. Eventually they will get penalized, or you would assume so anyway.
On the other hand if they are done correctly they would never be found!
IMO they obviously DO work or google wouldn't care about them. That's just common sense.
Have you ever wondered when checking site how they rank so well when according to tools such as Ahrefs they don't have a strong backlink profile? It's simply because they have a pbn and a code that blocks seo tools.
Many of the top 10 sites for money terms have a pbn. I have sold sites in the past that were bought just to be part of one. It's amazing what you can find with a bit of digging.
To add though @Mason Jones would you really buy links from someones PBN? That's the opposite of what they are supposed to be, and way too much of a risk.
you are much better spending your time and money on quality marketing campains. Google is getting smarter every day.
if you want building link, i suggest you start building from social media. Thats way so faster rather than using pbn need time and money.
If someone is selling you PBN links then these are not PBN as everyone else can get them. Unless you are looking for a quick boost for a week or two you shouldn't be buying this kind of links.
That's the point ... you will never know about the real and powerful PRIVATE blog networks. A PBN is not the easiest or cheapest way to build links but one of the best. To buy and build and maintain a growing bunch of TF/DA +30 domains gives you power and control. To buy links/articles (let´s say 300-400$ each) from authority domains it´s probably cheaper but if you run more than one money site a good PBN pays off. But again ... what someone calls a PBN and where you can order posts out of Google docs or listings in Facebook for 40 or 60 or 100$ is not what I`m talking about
PBNs still working. However very risky for a serious business.
Did anyone experience a PBN being revealed by google? Is there a real chance to get penalized or is it just a devalue and loss of invested money that goes down the drain?
How does a PBN (PRIVATE Blog Network) differ from any other sets of sites? Don't confuse the word with spammy ones filled with tons of outgoing links, 0 original content and value. Like eenzoo mentioned private stands for PRIVATE aka you'd never hear about it or find a post about it.
Under what way would you be breaking any guidelines or "trying to fool Google" if you are simply maintaining 10 high quality blogs with proper backlink backgrounds, circling around 20-30 DR/UR and occasionally every month or 2 linking to your money site.
But why would anyone be selling you links at 100$ a pop or 400-500$ when they've invested thousands of hours and thousands of dollars, so YOUR sites make the big cash? Obviously they'd link their own sites and get the full advantage.
Bottom line is whether you call it PBN or a set of sites doesn't matter. PBNs have a bad name cause of the way people have created them and used them. Eating a meal made from 2$ products may not taste as well as one made with 50$ worth of products. This isn't any different.
So ya not that the PBN is a great way to get a boost, the links from quality sites are.
