Hello everyone,

I've been thinking about this question for a little while now, and haven't found many answers. I would love to know what kind of hosting everyone uses to host their casino/gambling websites. Do you use shared hosting, or a dedicated server?

Currently I'm using Hostgator shared hosting, but I'm not too happy with it. Its okay most of the time, but sometimes it gets so slow or goes down. Today one of my shared reseller accounts is being very slow! I log into Hostgator to ask them about it, and they said "it seems fine to me".

The real problem with these shared hosting services is that they cram so many reseller accounts on each server (and that's why it gets so slow, or goes down).

How can someone confidently get to the top of Google for a big keyword and always be worried, "Is my reseller account working okay today, or has some idiot overloaded the server?".

I'd love to know the following for my own information:

-Which hosting company do you guys use?
-Do you use shared or dedicated hosting?

Thanks so much, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I currently use:
Fasthosts = OK
1and1.co.uk = Utter garbage - I can't wait to dump them.
BathRock Media = Account set up but not got my arse in gear to start using properly yet.
(That is Webzcas' company)

They are all shared.

i use, for my affiliate sites, a VPS. I feel that I have a bit more control that way as resources are pre-allocated.

I use: SolarVPS, GigENet, and LiquidWeb.

They are all spectacular hosts.

I'm in a similar boat to the OP at Hostgator - the reseller server does slow down from time to time BUT that's my only gripe really and Hostgator support has been decent, so am considering going the dedicated route with them.

My question is: VPS or Dedicated? I don't really understand the difference and what's the advantage to either?

Thanks so much for the great suggestions. VPS sounds amazing, can't believe I didn't try it earlier, it makes complete sense. I think shared hosting is a bit too limited, and dedicated is a bit expensive, so VPS is a perfect medium between both.

Simmo! - I'm not an expert on VPS or dedicated hosting, but they both seem to be similar. VPS is when you get an allocation of a servers memory and resources (which includes your own operating system). Dedicated hosting is when you get the entire server and not a partition. I think VPS and dedicated are basically the same in that they are both stand alone systems with their own operating systems, but with dedicated hosting you get more resources i.e. the entire server.

I can sleep well at night now, the shackles and limitations of shared hosting are a thing of the past now, and I can afford decent hosting without an expensive dedicated server ;D

I've been using a VPS since 2006. I'm happy with it, and I doubt switching to a dedicated server would make much of a difference for me, performance-wise.

My main concern with VPS is whether or not what I do or, more importantly, what other people hosting sites on the same server do, that could affect me.

For example, on my Hostgator reseller server I had my database scripts on one very busy site shut down by support for being too intensive. No warning - they just had to kill them to get the server running properly which is fair enough but gave me problems.

So would VPS leave me open to that potential problem still?

after reading this thread i'm a bit confuse. I have a few months in this market and everyday i learn something new. Now my questions is what benefits bring a VPS and how I manage it. I use hostgator with a regular plan,so this VPS confuse me somehow.

We use CBN Gaming's host platform and have never had a fault. It's through their technology that we're able to stream live gaming footage - the first of its kind.

Hope this helps

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say that shared hosting is just fine for smaller casino sites. If you've got a big one and you're getting lots of traffic, sure upgrade. But most affiliates with lots of small sites are best off with multiple cheap shared hosting accounts dispersed geographically IMO.

1. The best solution is a dedicated server, this, however, can be expensive and they do die occasionally.
2. In terms of which hosting company we use, well, we built a hosting company to serve our gambling hosting needs since none existed at the time...
3. For our gaming endeavors, we use VPS
4. I note a comment that one VPS server can cause strain on others, for instance by having very high I/O levels. In instances like this, we simply limit I/O of the offending server. Causes of this can be hitting large databases that have no indexes for instance.

Which is the best location to host your site will depends on your intentions... We host from Curacao as this is where our licensing lives however if we were licensed in the UK, that's where we would work from. Just google "gambling hosting" for the best hosting sites... they are at the top for a reason!

I trust this helps!

PS - I know this is an old thread however it pops up in search results and does require more relevant information. I won't be posting any links since this would be against Affiliate Guard Dogs terms and conditions.

I would, of course, be happy to provide hosting promos to AffiliateGuardDog members, if moderators would allow this (just let me know). There is a need for decent gambling hosting and this has been our focus for a number of years now.
