I seem to be having a difficult time getting into Google with one of my sites. It's an older site, linked in my signature. Been around for a long time, updated recently (a few months back), content regularly updated but not indexed quickly, and I really expected it to do well based upon it's long history on the web.

obviously I am doing something wrong, just not sure what it is :( I know the site has some issues in regards to layout and such, but that shouldn't stop ranking. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm never in the top of the SERPS unless I google 'Slots On Fire' - which i would expect top listing for ;)

Not sure if I need more inbound links from authority sites.. or what. I hate link building, so I have never really concentrated on that. But sites that beat me out have way less inbound links than I do.

Thanks in advance!

Is this on a seperate hosting plan than your other sites? Any Negative backlinks in webmaster tools?

I am having a similiar situation, I found my problem with too many outbound links.

I saw some duplicate h3 tags in there. It navigates well, doesnt seem to have too many outbound links. Some of the inner pages lack content but everything seems good as far as on page opt goes. You are not getting much traffic at all based on your alexa ranking but the moz bar has your DA at 25 which is decent. Are you sharing a lot with social networks? Do you have a lot of google plus links (I believe they work)

Perhaps switch to longer tail keywords? What about making a sub-domain. It is a lot of work but usually helps boost traffic. Something like free.slotsonfire.com? From there strategically interlink the sites?

It is on a separate IP, I think from most. But I really have not much in the way of other sites to speak of :)

I haven't done anything with social networks at all. I need to do this maybe. :(

I would rather keep the domain structure as is.. I don't really target keywords, just create quality content (as I see it). Maybe not smart, but should still result in some long-tail keywords. If I set up subdomains, it would just be trickier for me (ie., would have to set them up on Godaddy or change my nameservers, etc.. )..

I will post some more stuff that may help a bit later Andy as I am a bit busy for now. But one thing I noticed is the site loads very slow and if you take a look here: Latest Performance Report for: http://www.slotsonfire.com/ | GTmetrix it is quite bad in the speed performance department and I know this can have a small effect on how Google see's your site.

Looks like you might have a bit of a problem with duplicate pages - I picked a random slot and googled the title ("Meerkat Mayhem Slot Machine") to see what came up and you were on the first page but it wasn't the review page - it was a page from your test site.

Eg: Real page is http://www.slotsonfire.com/slot_machines/slot_detail/meerkat-mayhem-1873 but the page that comes up is /testing/slot_machines/slot_detail/meerkat-mayhem-1873 - that's could be having a serious impact on your site.

Be careful also with pages like this: http://www.slotsonfire.com/theme/slots/africa-15 - I had a site with a bunch of similar landing pages and it got killed in a panda update.

You also have the issue that your slot review pages don't have a lot of information on them (eg: http://www.slotsonfire.com/slot_machines/slot_detail/agent-jane-blonde-571) - a few pages like this probably wouldn't hurt, but if the majority of the site is pages like this I think you could run into problems (I have a site that lets you search for gyms with an advanced filter for facilities - eg: swimming pool, squash court - structure was similar to yours and that also got killed by a panda update).

As much as you don't want to hear this... I'd also be adding text reviews to the slots (eg: http://www.mobileslots.co/gonzos-quest-touch/ - from a new slots site of mine that I'm working on).

Just my 2c

Your backlinks may also be part of the problem. According to Majestic Seo you have 7571 baclinks coming from only 52 domains! This is a lot of backlinks coming from the same domain; not good for seo.

Also, did you made proper 301 redirect from the old pages to new ones after redesign? I see a lot of "Page not found" still indexed in google.

Dammit... I'll have to exclude that. That portion of the site is staging. My developer was not supposed to allow it to be indexed :( I see what you mean.

Be careful also with pages like this: Africa Themed Slots - I had a site with a bunch of similar landing pages and it got killed in a panda update.

ok, I do have to mess with this a lot

I do have text reviews, just not for all of the slots. I only have reviews for new slots in the system, I have to go back to the old ones and add. I'm slowly doing that, but here is what a typical slot page would look like: Secret Santa Slot Machine. Note there is a review near the bottom. All new slots have this (except for the newest, Silver Unicorn, but that is because it isn't out yet - so I can't play and test and properly review).

Looks like I have a lot of work to do! Thanks - I appreciate the help.

I wouldn't think that would matter much. Google knows about signature links in forums and what to do with them. I think most are AGD, CAP, GPWA forum signature links (guessing). I have not 'built' links for this website at all.

Also, did you made proper 301 redirect from the old pages to new ones after redesign? I see a lot of "Page not found" still indexed in google.

I didn't do any of that, actually. I just went into webmaster tools in Google and had the site re-indexed. I guess I'll have to take a look a that.

Oh I see! Yes those look great - hopefully google will lap them up :)

Do you know a way, in Google Webmaster Tools to completely remove from index all URLs in a subfolder? That would be ideal. Would hate to have to do it one by one :(

Yes you can - you need to block the whole directory in robots.txt and then go to:

Google Index > Remove URLs

Then enter the folder you want removed (ie: /testing/) and click continue, then select 'Remove Directory' from the drop down.

Hi.

I think that homepage is very important page of any website and when you check All Online Slot Machines - SlotsOnFire via some tools like seo-browser you can easily notice that homepage link (in this case logo) on this site is placed on 16 position. In other words 15 links to social sites, login, registration etc have priority over homepage.

So in my opinion this needs to be corrected in template design. Homepage first.

Thanks for that. I'll have to figure that one out. That is the way the whole site is structured and won't be a simple fix. :(

Forgot to reply to this one. Yes, I am going to work with my developer to have him create thumbnails automatically of the sizes required. That will cut WAY down on load time. Each image is actually full sized, so that is killing me. Loads fast for me, but I have 30MB internet :)

Sorry to re-quote... I had the /testing/ portion removed... so that will help. Seems that Meerkat Mayhem doesn't show in the SERPS at all for Slotsonfire.com (which I don't get), but it will come back I am sure. Thanks for the tip!

I agree as most of your backlinks seem to be sitewide (or a large amount of forum posts in this case). For your key anchors 'All Online Slots' and 'Newest Online Slots' you only seem to have links from a few (2) different domains.. Open Site Explorer
