I know there are a bunch of seo experts, and buddying seo experts out on AGD - and we each have our own SEO style.

What are your top 5 SEO tips that you would recommend to anyone.
1 being the most important. 5 being the least.

I wish I did a better job at this, but I'll give out what I would recommend:

  1. Check keywords for every page, article you write (as you write it). That way you know how to word the H1, H2, Bold, and links properly right away.
  2. Keep a running list of the pages you have added so that you can check SERPS several weeks (2-3) later for verification of rank.
  3. Interlink your site appropriately within pages. Very important, IMO.
  4. Do NOT overoptimize - writing 25 keywords in the meta tag is not smart. Organize each page for a maximum 3 keywords.
  5. Wait for the money to roll in.

Ok - so maybe not the best list... but it's something :) I try to abide by that list, but of course have some super-secret details that I would never reveal... muahahahahahahahahaha

1 - Choosing keywords is hugely important. So many people do this wrong. There isn't much point in ranking first for a term that gets 20 searches a month. Use Google's Adword or Trends tools to find the proper terms to go after; you are looking for terms that get decent amount of searches, but that also don't have millions upon millions of results.

2 - Create a Google Webmasters account, Yahoo Site Explorer acount, Live webmasters account (or whatever they call it now for Bing) and so on. Submit your sites there and set your various options to best help the engine see your site as you want it to be seen (canonical URLs, etc...)

3 - Generate a sitemap (or different sitemaps depending on your site's various audiences, for example you can create video maps or mobile maps if those apply) and submit them to through all your accounts in step 2. Regularly monitor them to remove or fix errors reported.

4 - On back links, make sure you try as much as possible to use your keywords or phrases in the anchor text of the back link. This helps a great deal.

5 - When it comes to content, there are a lot of ways to use existing content, re-write it, etc... but I've always found (if you know how to write), manual, true unique content is loved by the engines. Google is smarter than you and they will figure out all the "caffeinated" sites eventually. Quality over quantity and update no less than every third day.

BONUS TIP - Start small and make one site successful. Then just scale it like crazy. Rinse and repeat is the secret to building an empire. ;D

my top 5 is

1. old domains - in my experience, the older and longer duration of domains do score higher page rank even you applied the same methods exactly to a relatively newer domain. So be reg some great domains soon.

2. good backlinks - the effect is instant if you can get the right site point back to you correctly!

3. update frequency - the more you update (daily), crawler will then crawling your site like daily.

4. Submit site map to google webmaster tool

5. Be smart on link farming, simply cut off non-sense blog commenting / social bookmarking boring site (that you own). These won't help unless you got a real interesting site/link to tells other!

To me, the #1 SEO tips will always be backlinks. Backlinks backlinks and backlinks. :p

1. Backlinks
2. Good domain
3-5. Other on-page factors, title, description, tags, keyword/content, internal links etc.

But getting backlinks for a gambling site will be the most difficult task, don't you think?

1. content
2. links
3. content
4. links
5. content

read on an seo forum that around 25% of all searches are terms searched for the first time. Point being there are plenty of terms other than the hollywood terms and a bigger net of original content catches these long tails kw's. Still ranking 1 for casino would be nice!

mings - agreed 100%. Not only is getting quality backlinks in this industry difficult - its very very boring. Unfortunately its essential though

If a site is a business site then it's not possible to update contents daily. I think how strongly you make back links matters in SEO.

This thread is over 2 years old.

By the way your posting, Llooks to me like your trying to get you post count up sampeter012

Thanks for saying that, Dave. I just PM'd the same thing. Post count doesn't work that way, though.... when I see this behavior, there is no way a signature link will be allowed.

Too much on site SEO can also do some harm. It is called over-optimization.
