Default Wordpress to Create Websites, Are They Auto-SEO'd?

    Thanks for coming in,

Does anybody know the most current info on wordpress and SEO?

googling I have found what amounted to being evidence to make me believe that perhaps by now, they have it all auto-seo'd (basically).

earlier I know there was need for plugins which were created outside wordpress but works with it, that fixes the meta tags etc. but I got the impression they might be outdated now too.

    appreciate your thoughts.

While Wordpress does have some nice SEO capabilities, I use the Headspace plugin to perfect the SEO.

I love Wordpress and use it on 90% of my websites. Maybe I can convince an expert to show up here I'll ping one now.

    Hi All,

I've been using WP for most of my sites lately, well since late 08. Not only is it great blog software but it holds its own for a CMS too.

In so far as SEO, I'd suggest using a theme that is SEO optimised. I'd also use a variety of plugins from there. I use the following and achieve page 1 SERPS without any drama:

    All in One SEO Pack
    Google XML Sitemaps
    WP Security Scan
    Word Press Stats
    Banner Garden
    Embeded IFrame

I also use the bundled Akismet plugin to stop spam. You have to get an API to use it but it's free and it does a great job.

Of course there are plenty of pulgins to extend the use of WP, the majority are free and are pretty damn good. So do cost.

Some of the new SEO plugins will migrate your DB info.
Piece of advise. Back up your DB before doing this.

If you don't like the plugin, it can be a real b#tch to convert back later.

Also if your using WP as a blog or blog/cms set your RSS feed to summary, not full text. It helps prevent your full content being yanked.

Recently (last 3 months) I've installed Blog Protector, makes it hard for your content to be pilfered by low life's.

    Cheers

I think Wordpress is great, been using for a little while now, so many features with all the plugins, makes no sense creating a html site anymore.

    Some I use:

    All in One SEO Pack
    Contact Form 7
Dagon Design Sitemap Generator (custom sitemap page)
Exec-PHP (run php in posts and pages)
    Google XML Sitemaps
My Page Order (handy for rearranging the menus)
    Wassup (stats)

    These I always use.

I made my blog in Wordpress and used Dreamweaver to create the rest of the site. A friend of mine who does SEM for a living told me to use dreamweaver instead of using Wordpress for the entire site. Based on what you guys said, Wordpress is the way to go...

There is nothing wrong with using HTML for a basic website, I use dreamweaver all the time. Wordpress has come a long way and if you want some enhanced features without having to spend a lot of time or money coding it then, wordpress has pretty much a plugin for it.

Both ways are good, but I would definatly look at wp for creating a site nowadays.

For any new site, Wordpress should at least be 'part' of your website (IMO). It allows the site to be much more quickly spidered by the search engines.

With the plugins and such, you can make the site that it doesn't even look like a blog if you want.

Take, for example, my site: Slotocash Casino Review.

That website looks nothing like a blog, yet it is one. It goes to show that you can easily make a website just look like a set of web pages even though it is a blog. The word 'blog' has some specific connotations that come with it, but that doesn't necessarily have to 'define' the site.

I use the following plugins, always:

All in One SEO Pack (sometimes I use Headspace instead, both are quality)
    MaxBlogpress Ping Optimizer
    Sociable
    Google XML Sitemaps
    WP-Stats

Those plugins will get you rockin'
