Programs that tell the truth is good for starters.
Watch out for those programs who claim they don't unethically cross market but actually do

Also watch out for brands who bundle. Meaning, if you do work with a group who bundles it's far better to promote only one of their brands. Otherwise IMO your shooting yourself in the foot.

Over and above those, I think looking at things from a player perspective is always a benefit. If a gaming property gives good service, pays legitimate winners promptly and generally does the right thing, anyone you send is going to be happy. Which I found turns into good retention.

As far as what software, that's a hard one because site-Y may do well with brand-Z but the same type of traffic at site-A way do total crap at brand-Z. I found it's a matter of trial and error. I tend to give brand 2 to 3 months. In that time if they're not converting well I try different banners and call to actions links. If after that thy're still failing I drop them.

It's important howeverto only promote trustworthy brands. Jumping on board new casinos and such if they screw up or trun rogue, it's generally the players and of course affiliates who get burnt. However keeping focus on the player - encouraging your visitors to return, means it's best to stick with trusted brands.

I agree with Aussie Dave on all points. One other is Payments - Made on time
Personally I'm sick of the blatant disregard some programs have towards paying their affiliates on time or at all. If I wanted to perform circus acts to earn a living - I would join a circus. Why I have to jump through hoops to recieve earnings due is disgraceful.

Communication, Communication, and them more Communication. when there is a line of Communication between Affiliates and Affiliate Managers, it makes life so much easier. ignoring me on messenger or emails shows lack of respect on both ends. if your sick or on vacation have someone covering for you. and let us affiliates know. also NCO And bundling are a not affiliate friendly terms.

Yep - agree with that 100%!

Another thing is having DECENT sign-up offers that might actually get players interested; far too many casino have crap offers that only an idiot would take...

Thanks for the chuckle mate...you have such a way with words

That actually brings up another good point their KK, T&C's.
Not too sure how many players take the time to read the bonus terms. Then there are those casinos who have a habit of hiding terms (other than where it should be) from players.

Which I feel can place the affiliate in a bad light with the player (can lead to player busting affiliates chops). Not to mention players get p#ssy which almost always ends in tears.

An affiliate program that is honest, converts well, and responds to all emails Its also good when an affiliate program has a large choice of banners, casino reviews that can be used by affiliates, and an easy to understand reporting system that isn't confusing at all.

100% agree Michael. transparency is a must... in these trying times it's hard to trust any program, but there are some I do trust, that's why I have continued to work in this industry : )

I agree with Rhondagrace - Communication is the key. No matter how small or big the affiliate is.

    For me its revenue.
Believe it or not alot of affiliate programs forget to tell you how much you are earning and you have to go through lots of reporting and figures that are of no use to you just to find your earnings.

It's great to see as soon as you login a summary e.g:

    Depositing players yesterday
    Affiliate Revenue earned yesterday

    Depositing players this month
    Affiliate revenue this month

    Depositing players last month
    Affiliate revenue last month

That way you can see your progress straight away.
