    Question Web hosting

Good afternoon everyone, I hope this is the right place to post this.

I am after some web hosting, I started my site from a free forum host and purchased a domain name, however I'm not finding it very search engine friendly and I have noticed I don't actually own the domain name the host does

Now because I'm fairly new to all this and my website skills are kind of limited, I'am learning a lot and will teach myself as much as I can,
I mainly started it up as a small hobby in my spare time but I'm thinking of giving it a fair crack now.

I'm looking for hosting that is easy, cheapish and has good/great support in-case I get myself into any trouble.

Since the weather isn't playing nice so I can do what I would normally on the weekend I have a lot of free time on my hands.

    Thanks everyone
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

I have been using successfulhosting.com for years now and they fit my needs.

    Good luck,

    Joe

I highly recommend Mojohost.com (managed server solutions). These guys are great. Using them for 5 years probably. Easy to get on the phone in a heart beat, support tickets with high alert are answered in minutes. No messing around here. Good prices, can handle high loads. Based in Florida.

I use Fasthosts.co.uk for most of my sites, and 1and1.co.uk for a few others.

I strongly recommend NOT using 1and1 as they have their own "Web Builder" software which allows you to create your websites online, but the software is the biggest heap of crap I have ever seen!
    Fasthosts are OK though.

The webmaster Webzcas (Dave) who you probably know from CasinoMeister or here at AGD has his own server and will host your sites very cheaply, or possibly free!
I'm going to be moving some of my sites to his server soon, but I don't know what level of support he can offer yet...?

    Thanks for the replies,

I will have a look at a few of your options, Now where would be the best place to purchase a domain name? I would like to purchase one for as long as possible.

    Cheers

    Hi Matt,

The first question you should ask yourself is where does the majority of my traffic come from. It's pretty stupid hosting in the US if your traffic is predominately from the UK, EU or elsewhere. On the same token hosting in the UK and your traffic is US then the same scenario applies.

Come back with those answers and I'll put forward some useful suggestions.

    Cheers

    Dave

I just moved to SG Managed hosting ($8 / month, unlimited domains, 20Gb traffic included), and fully satisfied. My site is growing, and maybe I'll shange my current plan to something more expensive

For my real business, we use WiredTree managed hosting - it's like Rackspace used to be back when they actually gave a s**t.

For affiliate sites: I use bunches of different hosts. Always liked StormWeb for Canadian hosting - not put a foot wrong in 4 or 5 years.

In the UK, I use Flump.net and EvoHosting. . USA: HostGator , Ireland: LetsHost.ie .

I've got a host in South Africa that I'm not happy with, so if anyone knows a good SA web host, let me know. Also Greece and Italy as I've got new sites for those markets coming soon.

How much MBs of Disk Space do you need for hosting affiliates sites? I would think the smallest amount would be sufficient for something like that?
