I came across a list that may be helpful to some affiliates. Make sure that when you use social bookmarking or networking sites, you do not just throw up a spammy link and go away That will defeat the purpose of the link itself.

DO Follow Social Networks

If you are unaware of what this means, here is a brief tutorial (very brief)

No Follow Links
These type of links were created so that you could create a link to a website, but give it 'no weight'. There was a good comment about this on Google's blog some time ago:

From now on, when Google sees the attribute (rel=”nofollow”) on hyperlinks, those links won’t get any credit when we rank websites in our search results. This isn’t a negative vote for the site where the comment was posted; it’s just a way to make sure that spammers get no benefit from abusing public areas like blog comments, trackbacks, and referrer lists.

Links WITHOUT the 'NoFollow' attribute (DO Follow)
Links without this attribute are tags that Google will follow and give proper credit to.


To Reiterate: The 'Do Follow' list linked to above is an excellent list of places where you can add links to your website which will add value. However - you have to be careful how you add those links. Look to add some text copy and keep it unique to create a proper link. The goal is to make that 'Post' or link useful to the surfer. Doing this will not only make the link appear less spammy, but will give a surfer something to click (surfers DO know the difference between a spam link and a real one. Make your links 'real')

It's best to try to get links without the no follow but I hear that search engines still give some weight to nofollow links.
