Question ranking a site for key words that dont even exist in the site

I know that it's a strange question, but is it possible to rank a web page for a key word that does not exist in the page at all?
basically I saw sites that do it, but this does not go together with all the theory about keyword density and all of this

has somebody any experience with something like this?

    thanks

Yes, that is one of the ways. Takes massive amounts of links and your site will get dumped from the SERPS after a short amount of time. Works in the short term, though.

How does a site then rank for a keyword for long period of time without getting dumped?

    Hidden keywords

Cloaked pages, that is where the server will show the robots pages different from what actually exists at that page.

When that is suspected, it is suggested to file a search engine spam report.

Google now forces webmasters to be logged in when filing the reports.

Personally inmyopinion this is both good and bad.

I think this may reduce the amount of false reports filed, but I think it also reduces the amount of reports filed by non webmasters.

It's a never ending battle these days.

If it's not black hat, it's scum crapping content thieves & or using my original rss feeds to out rank me.

I've commenced using the .htaccess file to prevent know scrapping software accessing my sites. I've also blocked entire Countries too. Especially those known for scrapping content. There is no reason why anyone from Lithuanian; China; Russia or other places would want to visit my site, when my sites target Australian players.

Granted scum bags can use proxies to circumnavigate these blocks. However when it's extra hard to get content most will move to another site. Unless they really want my content then they'll just pull the source code.

As a thought, just a thought...

You can encrypt your source code, including content.
Would it be considered cloaking, if you presented SE bots with non encrypted content but presented everyone else with your encrypt source code?

The content doesn't change, it's the same in both cases, just not readable to anyone other than SE bots.

    Cheers

The danger with that Dave is if the bots would suddenly discover content that is different for the bots than the browser if the algo detects that and is written to dump pages or sites that do that well you could screw ytourself by trying to protect yourself.

You really think that many are that savvy? I mean whom aren't webmasters?

MHO I wouldn't think there'd be that many whom are not at least somewhat familiar with creating websites, would recognize what we're talking about.

I find it curious that bots can be detected and made to follow a particular route because I would have guessed anything we can see on the net, the bots can see, regardless of where we direct them to go, although I do understand them being voluntary about following the route given by that website, but if that is the case then I would think it would be a great concern to google to ignore the bot directions ... and view the page as it is seen by people.
