    Default Domain = success?

Since most of the "good domains" are already taken
(short and accurate domain names like poker.com, pokerrooms.com etc)
how big are the chance of making success with a more random domain that dont include either the words:
poker, casino, odds ,betting if you are basing your site on those products.

Can domains that got nothing to do with gambling at all make sucess as long as the content are good?

Its much easier to rank if you have the main keywords in your domain name, or if its an exact match. But you can still do really well with a domain that has no keywords. You just need more links or you need to be more popular on social networks. This is very clear in Google nowadays, especially when you go to search.aol.com and type in Online Casinos. Clearly if it was all about domain names, onlinecasinos.com should theoretically be number 1.

PS. Search.aol.com is powered by Google.

You need the main KW in the domain if possible.

Having a site called tolietrollpapersucks.com that talks about poker is pointless.

Having a site called allaboutpoker.com could be brandable, it has the main KW poker but mentions KWs you may not want to target. This domain name would work well.

Stay clear of "-" domains. keyword-keyword-keyword.com These sites look spammy for users and more than one - and I do not click on them myself.

Also, keyword rich domains, keywordkeywordkeyword.com are going to be less valuable for SEO purposes. You may get a boost atm in Google for such terms but it is only a matter of time until Google devalues these a hell of a lot, especially with the quality content updates.

It's probably still a good idea if you can do it, but Google's most recent updates have minimized the effect of merely having the words in the domains. I would think about it more as if you are a user looking for something and what you would be most likely to click on.

    Domain name is very important

    1. for the reason already mentioned, KW in the domain name tells search engines a lot.

    2. branding - especially in light of changes in search engine technology - its to easy for them to make a turn in a direction that you are not heading and having loyal visitors is a MUST

    3. in-print marketing: if you ever do marketing via business cards, etc, you want a domain that is easy to type in the browser so that your visitor lands on your site!

    4. domain names aren't all gone, they are just reserved. buy a decent one (doesn't have to be perfect) -- you can get a domain, you can get one thats aged, and even better you can get one that has a little site on it already indexed for not too much money.

The question should be .... why WOULD you buy a crappy name when you can get a decent one for not too much money ?

Whilst nowhere near as good as domains without the hyphen. A two word keyword rich domain name with just the one hyphen is still very good for seo.

I own casinos-online.co.uk and it is not doing too bad at all in google.co.uk

Like Webzcas I own australian-onlinecasinos.com, whilst it took a bit to get it going, it's now holding some nice serps.

I honestly believe if your content is written for people/players and not SE bots and you tick all the squares for good seo in 2011, whilst having a keyword rich domain maybe be helpful IMO it's what's going on within and outwards that's important.

    Cheers

People, what are you talking about!!! A site like poker.co.uk can cost like 500000$, yet you can add only generated content there and shitty network links, and it'll remain on the first page. You'll spend like 10 time less energy and money to bring it to the top...
