I'm a massive Wordpress fan, it's made my casino affiliate a breeze to push content out, track and style.

I've started using Composer to modify my pages, pretty sweet plugin.

The theme I use (after going through a couple) is a magazine one called Sparkle, highly recommend!

What's your favorite plugin or theme?

Wp Optimize, Smush.it, Yoast SEO Plugin, W3 Total Cache, WP Column Shortcodes and WP Sitemap - these are essential for all my sites. In regards to non-gambling themes I tend to use Premium Press.

I use this plugin for any content I get written: Copyscape Premium

I haven't seen a Casino operator provide any plugins, not sure if they do.

Not sure what kind of plugin a casino operator would provide. Wordpress already has a feed reader which can be used if the operator provide a jackpots feed and there's plenty of plugins to rotate banners.
Is there something specific you have in mind? Maybe I'll create it.

As fas caches go, tried few since converting most of my sites over to WP in 2010.

Some were a nightmare to configure, while others made a total balls up of my js/css minifying.

Been using WP Fastest Cache. The free version is great. The pro version adds some extra features BUT I use the free version and that exceeds my expectations.

In regard to other plugins used, I keep that to minimum. Usually around 11 max. And I don't always go with the popular ones either.

NB - Most people using wordpress these days, couldn't code their way out of a wet paper bag. Only have to look at how many WordPress sites have been hacked to see this... Just because its got multiple 5 star ratings (heaps of downloads) doesn't mean the plugin/theme is good or safe ;)

I also have WP Fastest Cache on a few of my sites.. I seemed to get the best PageSpeed Insights score using that caching plugin. I also use iThemes Security on all of my sites... I can't say enough good things about that plugin.. Haven't had a problem with security since I installed it about a year ago.

I've tried heaps of the WP "security" plugins and while some a good, there still flawed by design. I use ZB Block albeit not a WP plugin but no one with malicous intent gets past the letter-box, much less gets to enter the property. A simple setup process (a couple of clicks), add an pre-populated include code to the WP load file, adjust the *ini file and your locked up tighter than a fishes-butt-hole.

If it's nasty etc etc or from a Country you don't want access to your site, it gets blocked and is served a 403. If it returns it gets a 500, tries again? It's looped back on the bot/hacker with a 127.0.0.1 loopback. It writes a log file of everthing which is blocked, with a short description on why.

Hands down the best free WP protection out there, bar none. And it's super fast too.

I will have to look into that, never heard of it before, but being that it is not a WP plugin, I like that.. I try to run as few plugins as I can.

WP "security" plugins
Dude, I agree 100% most security plugins suck. I was recently doing work on a WP site and they had about 5 security plugins installed (amongst the 95, yes you heard right 95 Wordpress plugins!). The site was riddled with hacks, I followed the Wordpress guide http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress, changed the permissions on the files and folders and updated the site (which was so out of date), worked like a charm.

Hackers are smart, the only thing you can do is keep (legit) plugins down to a bare minimum, try use SSH only (FTP is venerable). And just make sure WP is up to date, your password isn't your pets name and your permissions are set.

The WP Hardening Article is great :)
I use some extra layers of protection, in addition to ZB Block.

Think it's helpful to reiterate the section about DB privilleges.

While WP itself using one of its generic themes will likely run fine with only these DataBase privilleges: SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE, using another theme, plugin or simply just updating your theme/plugins AND only using these privelleges can break your site. These will also prevent auto/manual updates. Though the codex article does come with a caveat for that ;)

The thing is... When WP is initially installed by one of the many automated processes available in cPanel etc etc, or maybe even free wordpress sites like the operated by WP itself, ALL DB privilleges are switched on by default - bad, very bad and dangerous practice imo.

SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE is perfect if you don't mind logining in-and-out of cPanel et al, or gaining shell access every time you need to update. Personally I couldn't be bothered logging into cPanel every time I have to update plugins/themes or WP core. Instead I use these DB privelleges, in addition to locking my site up tight.

ALTER
CREATE
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES
DELETE
INDEX
LOCK TABLES
SELECT
DROP
INSERT
UPDATE

NB - Be mindful if someone wants to gain access (and they are skilled enough in hacking) they'll find a way in. However for 99.9% of the time, your not dealing with this type of hacker. Instead it's script kiddies, misbaving bots and an entire gambit of evil-doers trying to gain access. By making it a total pain in the ass and blocking these actions, whoever is up to no good, will move to a softer target.

Think of hardening WP as being akin to adding multiple road blocks.
